Post operation three weeks. Knee feels fine but range of motion is only about 60 degrees, is this a worry. I am doing exercises but my physio is saying she is going to really push the range next week.

Whether or not you can trust your physio does rather depend on your physio!  Mine was a sadist, I;m sure. . . .

Lol my therapist wanted me at 90° and I still had 37 staples in my leg!!

Yes, when I went back to the specialist to have the staples out, I was at around 75 perhaps. . and he was quite scathing . . said I would be coming back for a manipulation probably . . .but the damned leg was almost twice the size of the other one. .there is no way I could have bent it any more!  Fortunately,at my age I;ve given up listening to what these youngsters tell me. . .

Good for you! These youngsters think they know it all! Aren't they aware we older folks know it all! Ha!

I'm post op 10 weeks. Still a bit stiff. But have regained full range of motion. Keep doing exercises. You will do fine.

Don't let her push you into pain and be sure and adequately ice afterwards plus.......take pain meds about an hour before you start

Problem with taking pain meds ahead of time is you can't feel if you're over doing it until they wear off. Don't you think?

Just be careful to not let the physio push you too hard! They can set you back by over aggressively working your knee and you won't be able to walk at all for several days. If it hurts say NO! It's still very early for you. You have plenty of recovery time ahead. Keep icing and elevating and take your pain meds on schedule. Good luck.

3 weeks ia still fairly early I am 6.5 weeks post op and I am in the lower 100's. it really hurts trying to bend the knee but continue your exercises and continue your physical therapy and you will eventually be able to bend your knee more and more.

    Hi Justin,

I'm 7 months post TKR op.

I was ar 90/95 degrees for up to 9 weeks, at about 12 week's made it to 105/110. Now no problem at all.

This recovery is a marathon not a sprint.

Don't let any physio or anyone at all push you too hard. You and your body knows best.

    I am 56 years old.

    Best wishes, Take care,

    Alan

This is what I got told by a physio yesterday, " if you broke your tibia and fibia in a fall would it hurt, yes, would you expect to be bending it after two weeks, no, so don't rush it, it will come, you have had a major operation and it will come eventually." Made sense to me as I was obsessing over my range of movement as well as comparing my rate of progress to my other knee.

Well, it does depend on things like the amount of swelling you have, which will make the bend difficult.  It is important to keep pushing to get as much bend as possible, and it does involve a fair degree of pain . . but it shouldn't involve agony.  some physios will want to push you to that extent, until you scream . . . I had one of those, and I very soon told her to leave me alone, and I continued at my own speed.  I am not in agreement with people who say "We all get there in the end'  Without some effort, we do not all get there, and I do personally know people who have not achieved more than about seventy, because they decided to wait until it didn't hurt. . .but three weeks is very early, and at that stage, I think I had about 60/65 . . .I;ve ended up with 130, without agony, with discomforrt and a degree of pain, yes, but don't let them push you to the extreme.  It's your body!

You poor thing. Good for you telling them to back off. Yes there is pain but not agony! Glad to hear you're doing well.
