I take oxyCondon and Tylanol, but pain at night is very hard. Does anyone have suggestions? How many weeks before pain is gone?

A Zem Mater will tell you: "It will be gone when it's gone."  So very true.

You'll get some ballparks in the post but nothing applies to any one individual...we all recover differently.  However, on average, you can reasonably expect noticeable changes in pain after the first month and then at 3, 6 and 9 months.  After that, some minor pain, stiffness and "clicking/popping/clunking" sounds may persist up to 18 months...some people even longer.

Once you get past your PT and achieve your ROM goals (typically 0 / +120), ya gotta hit the gym to rebuild the strength in your quads, glutes and core.  The whole thing can take a year.  Marathon not sprint...this takes a while.

I'm at two week post TKR on my second knee and I'm feeling your pain. With my first knee I was weaned off Oxy. by 8 weeks. My doctor has already started dropping the qty. Of pills by ten. So went from 50 tabs now to 40 tabs. For me being real active with my PT, ice 3 to 4 times a day and stretch. I have to sleep on my back and on real bad nights ill prop a small pillow under my TKR knee. I usually wait to take an Oxy. Until I wake up sometime in the middle of the night. Seems to work best for me. My pain gets better every couple days but really takes 10 to 12 weeks before I can say it doesn't hurt that much. Everyone is different but we all have to deal with this in our own way. On thing I know for sure, is it will get better and easier so hang in there and good luck.

Hi...I am just short of one month post TKR. I have been waking up in the middle of the night with terrible knee pain. I usually get up walk around a bit and head back to bed..that does seem to help. I do ice before sleeping and take a pain pill . It wears off quickly though. I decided to buy aleve with sleep aid and will try that and see how it works. I'll report back to this page if it works well for me...my biggest problem is that I am impatient and think I should be way ahead of where I am...in reality I am doing pretty well...still working on my flexion, but that will come. Hope you feel better soon!!
