Stop by a medical supply store and pick up an AirCast (pic). That will keep the knee iced 24 x 7. Elevate your foot onto another chair whenever possible. You can also use some Voltaren Gel (RX in the US)...GREAT topical anti-inflammatory and pain reliever. Check with doc or pharmacist about interactions. I had none; few people do. If you can't get the Diclofenac (generic name), try some OTC BioFreeze. Your pain meds should do the rest.

Ask for a recliner and pillows. Tell the staff what your problems are and they should help you plus will bring ice packs as needed. I say they will but probably should have said the should. I still don't understand all there is to know about your system but in the states most hospital staff will do all they can to make things work. I know you want to take care of that little one but you have to take care of yourself 1st so you don't create problems that will make it impossible to help.

Hi Deb, of course you have to be with your daughter & tiny granddaughter, but you must also look after yourself too! Once the little one is discharged you will no doubt also be helping out at home, so you need to be fit enough to do that.
you have been given some excellent advice & I would also add, the nursing staff will be very understanding & will help in any way they can, if you ask for it! They don’t know unless you tell them & before you say it, you are not making a fuss, this is your health & wellbeing we are talking of here, they will definitely understand.
The Cryo Cuff I believe is an excellent bit of kit! I haven’t used one but loads of people on here, from the uk, have. It is available on Amazon, but the whole kit quite expensive. It might be worth the outlay to enable your recovery.
As for elevating, whilst you are in the hospital you just need 2 chairs & a cushion. Sit on chair & your leg on cushion on the other! Every so often rest your heel on the cushion to let gravity pull your leg straight. Then you’ll have done an exercise too! Even if just for a short while (it hurts!) then put your whole leg onto the cushion again. That’s just a maybe, main thing support the leg, just slightly higher than the hip is fine, elevated enough.
Try the Voltarol, I never found it helped but others have got relief with it. Maybe have a telephone consultation with your GP & explain the circumstances & ask whether some better pain relief can be prescribed.
I hope mother & baby are doing well, my love goes out to you all.
Look after yourself
Marilyn
