TKR

I had my left TKR in 2nd week of March.

I am going through all sort of PT advised rehab activaties that includes iceing the knee thrice a day. though swelling still around.

I would like to know, how long does it require to continue with iceing ?

I am worrying that excessive & continuous use might harm the skin or joint, scars, tissues etc.

i iced for 45-60 minutes at a time 4 times a day. Now, at 16 weeks I ice as needed, mostly twice a day, but sometimes not at all. If it's swollen, ice it is my philosophy. I have very sensitive skin and it's caused no problems at all. I assume you're using a wrap and not putting ice directly on your skin, as that would cause problems.

Icing will not harm any tissue etc just ensure you don't put it direct on knee. I find after icing relief from pain and I'm 9 weeks since surgery I intend to ice until not needed any more. The swelling and bruising can take up to and maybe more than, 6 months when I ice my new tkr I also I've my knee done last year can't do any harm but may be beneficial.
