TKR and antibiotics

As many of you know already on this site, I had TKR on my right knee(RIPknee)over two years ago and it’s been an absolute nightmare from pain, losing my balance and walking like a drunk (sorry drunks).

However, for the last year I’ve been plaqued with a recurring urine infection.

I have noticed though when I’m prescribed trimethoprim 200mg - the pain in my knee subsides- any ideas on this. Is the prosthetic seen as a foreign object? Or am I talking rubbish??

I have not had any experience like you have described but if I have learned over the years with all my different ailments is YOU know your body and if you see a connection with the trimethoprim and you knee than there is most likely  a connection and you want to find a doctor that will listen to you and take you seriously.  I could give you several stories of where I thought there was connections between things going on in my body and the doctors basically told me I was nuts....only to find out later I was right.  Remember doctors only practice medicine...and they are practicing on you (and me).   Good luck.

It makes sense to me what you are saying Mary. It is my understanding reading these threads that an infection in your body can go to your knee implant because the implant is a foreign body. Have you been worked up to see if your knee has an infection in it?

Sounds logical to me Mary...  Have you mentioned this to your orthopedic surgeon?
