TKR and pain thresholds

Here's a question.  VERY generally speaking, would those who consider themselves to have a high pain threshold, feel that their recovery from a TKR was easier, and vice versa?  I KNOW I've got a high pain threshold, and I sailed through it - just wonder how relevant that was.

I am not sure if theres a correalation or not but like you I dont think I had the pain most people had with  TKR. I rememebr the pain  in my knee pre-op and for me it was worse along with the bone  grinding and knee giveing away!

Have had  RA for may years and the pain I had in my 20s when first diagnosed and graded as severe set me up for coping with anything!!! Im thankful for being controlled and  mobile. I also had a Celtic mother who was very tough so its in the genes lol !!!

With TKR I think like most things its a positive mental attitude that helps too and I have found when I have a down day my ability to cope with pain is worse. Also doing stuff that gives you  pleasure like listening to music or exercise can help the feel good factor. I have read stuff in the past that backs this up.

I am now getting lower back pain (just posted about it) which yesterday I did not cope well but today  is a bit better.

Chris I love your intitiating of little debates keep them coming.

Oh thanks Jan - on both counts:-))))  I do hope your back is better.  Have you tried a TENS?  I hope something helps your back soon - I think the back is the worst place to have pain!

Yes, the pain of arthritis goes on and on with no hope of it getting better, but only the expectation of it getting worse!  I agree - mine was way worse pre-op than post-op too!  No doubt there!!!!!
