i had my new knee Xmas 2017, so a good 8 months now, I have just had a bad fall and although most of my injuries are facial I gave my new knee a hefty bump, no X Ray's on knee needed but have severe pain and bruising and not due back at specialist for another 6 weeks, any advice as I'm worried I have damaged the knee replacement

Hi Susan. If I was in your position I would go to a hospital casualty (emergency) unit and ask to see a MD and request an x-ray. I reside in Australia and our medical system is under pressure. We wait days and weeks for treatment. My sister died last year because she could not see a doctor. They were all sick! She would not let me take her to emergency. Seek treatment if you're worried.

      hi pat

when I went to energency that stitched my chin and did  X Ray to my jaw line, they seem to think my knee is just tissue da age, how they are right and I'm worrying for nothing

Just get an X-ray authorised by your GP , I don’t know where you are but it’s easy to get one immediately here in Australia

if you have been seen in A&E and no x ray was needed i would trust that it shud settle down in the next couple of weeks like a ..normal... knee would.xx

if you have any pain..swelling or reduced movement after 2 weeks i would ask to be seen sooner xx

Susan, why wait for 6 weeks to see your specialist? try and bring forward this date by explaining your circumstances to the specialist. Sounds at least you require some specialist attention to your knee NOW!!!

It takes a lot t o damage the prosthesis. Many of the old timers on here know my horror story by heart. I have a rare tumor that caused the original prosthesis to come loose and of course it would move on its own hitting the nerves inside the bone causing unbelievable pain. Next step, a revision. Surgery day one. Day 2, I'm such an old hand at this I decided to show em what a 77 yo can do. While getting ahead of my abilities I was putting on a pair of undershorts and lost my balance falling with my leg in a figure 4. I twisted the femur into at a 20 degree angle. Day 3, I'm back in surgery having a hip to knee plate inserted and screwed into the bone. They used 4 screws in the knee and 4 more all the way through the bone. All of this a d absolutely no damage to the prosthesis. However; it can sure play hell with the soft tissue for a long time. Lot more icing, anti inflammatories and even frantic calls to the surgeon. Just watch for drainage & excessive heat. That's what Drs are for, to ease you mind so don't be shy about calling.
