Hi Susan, what pain relief are you on?
Does the knee bend if your physio pushes it back?
If it bends & is just very painful maybe you need a stronger pain medication.
If it won't even bend a little without causing excruciating pain, then maybe you need an MRI to see what's going on in there?
I don't know I am not a doctor! Go to see your GP, make a double appt if you can & speak honestly to your primary health professional! Also post op depression is something to consider, which you should also talk about with the GP. I'm not saying you are depressed but it should be considered & discussed.
Doctors can be very dismissive, & surgeons worse! You need to find someone who will LISTEN!!
Because whether it is a question of a problem (which scares all of us!) or it's a low pain threshold you still deserve to be treated as a human being, not a piece of meat!
At the end of the day, you CAN walk away (pun not intended!) & get another opinion from a more sympathetic surgeon! Good luck on that one! But that is where you need your GP onside!
Just a tiny teenie word on 'owning' the new knee. Last year we discussed the fact that sometimes we don't feel we 'own' the new knee joint! I must admit to poo pooing the point. However after going through TKR a second time, I now understand what was meant! I can't explain it but I really know what they meant! I don't think I fully owned my new joint on the right side. Consequently I took weeks to get to 100 degrees, a feat which has been much easier this time around.
You decide, mumbo jumbo or what??
So don't think of it as a metal thing in your leg, think of it as your own knee!
Try to get the joint good & warm before trying to move it, it really helps, massage all around the knee, top, bottom, back of knee & the joint itself. It really works, go on give it a try. Massage the joint & the incision scar 3 or 4 times a day, don't just give it a rub, give it a good old going over. Use E45 cream, BioOil, Emu Oil or Nivea Crete, something nice, any good skincare emollient. Thumbs into any raised areas on the scar & push & massage. You can't be too gentle, you've got to give it what for. It will help to loosen imbedded scar tissue & warm the joint up! Believe me it works!
If you can get into & out of, the bath, that is a really good place to try bending & straightening your knee. Lots of nice, hot as you can stand, deep water with some Epsom Salts. Try to do your knee bending in there. It's warm & the water will support you somewhat.
You have to try these things yourself. Find what works for you, nothing comes to you without hard work & TKR rehab is very hard, painful, work.
If you listened to a surgeon they say 6 weeks & you'll be back at work. Wrong! They do not mention sleepless nights, pain that rolls down your leg like an avalanche! Trying to bend when your knee feels like it's going to tear itself apart! Unfortunately that is TKR rehab! But they won't tell you that!
I hope you find relief soon.
