TLHR 8 weeks post op have developed deep ache directly over new hip after lying on side

Two weeks after TLHR I noticed increased sensitivity within my op foot that penetrated down to my big toe; this has now spread to my leg. My GP feels it is a nerve issue that is coming from my back . Last night I tried to lie on my operated side with pillow between legs. Sometime during the night , due to discomfort , I turned onto my back. Today I have a constant dull pain directly over my new hip and am concerned that I may have, in some way, caused some damage to my new hip. Or is it normal to feel pain after lying on operated side?

I really think you need professional advice Morrie.
I doubt that you could damage your new hip by lying on the operated side. Indeed, I was advised that after 6 weeks my operated side would be the best side to sleep on because it is impossible to cause damage as you lie with the hip in alignment. Maybe you twisted it as you turned on your back and disturbed the healing muscles or tendons, or perhaps it is the nerve damage the GP spoke about.
I would ring your GP in the morning. You'll only carry on worrying if you don't.
Let us know how you get on.

I am probably over reacting regarding this pain; its tender to touch so you are probably right. It's just that its new and, fortunately, after the 5th day post op, I pretty much sailed through.
If it persists I shall give my physio a call .
Thanks again

It wasn't really too comfortable but it eased my back.
27 years and still going strong. That's great news.

Once the staples are out, which should be soon, just keep the scar nicely moisturised. I used Sudafed for a week and then Vaseline moisturising body intensive care essential healing lotion.
I live alone so it's good to be able to share your concerns and to give advice.
Take care

The staples are coming out on Thursday so I'll see what the nurse says about how it's healing. If it is all closed nicely I'll pick up something from the pharmacy.
I live alone too.

I had my first sleep on my un-operated side last night and did not wake up until 10.30 !!! It was absolutely wonderful.

I was advised that provided I did not cross the midline I could lie on my operated side after three weeks and unoperated side after six. I suppose it's just down to the surgeon.
It is far too uncomfortable to lie on operated side shall try other one tonight and move the tele ; again !!!
Thanks again

Checking in with you ... how is the pain? Sometimes this dull pain is the thick muscle - I was convinced that I had damaged my new hip joint until my physical therapist sort of pushed on it - hip joint was at a different location
But I was allowed to sleep on nonoperated side with pillow between knees when still in the hospital - I can't imagine sleeping on scar with staples -
it is still so fragile Morrie -
You will know more this Thursday ... In the meantime, take it easy and be kind to yourself
big warm hug

The pain has eased this morning; thank you.
It's strange how opinions differ. Up until two nights ago I was still lying on my back. Last night I slept on my unoperated side with just a soft pillow between my legs and did not awake until 10.30!!!How utterly disgraceful.
I'm going to attempt to prune and feed my roses whilst there is still daylight.
Have a lovely day.
