hi,

went to doctors today and was diagnosed TMJ...ive been given antiflammatries to be every day for a month. ive been experiencing facial pressure....no constant only every now and then but i also have shooting pains on and off near temple. i thought it was my sinuses but he felt all around there and no pain or tenderness when touching. the faciel pressure can be in my jaw near my chin, cheek bone (only left side) above eye and also shooting pains behind eye. is this normal for TMJ?

I had the same symptoms, would come and go on and off for almost 2 years with the shooting pains daily near my left temple for months. jaw pain a little less often. it seems to have subsided now. i put it down to sinuses and so did my doctor but penicillin for sinuses never worked. interested to see responses here, thanks for the post.

I had same symptoms for 2 years. Pain in right temple (TYLENOL would not work) and pain behind eye. It would come at work and especially in high stressful times. Then it would go away for a while. This year i got neck muscle spasms and dizziness. I was diagnosed with TMD and some nerve hypersensitivity. First TMD specialist started me on orthotic splint therapy to align my jaw and second dentist said its something neurological with my nerves. I am waiting for appointment with neurologist. Dentist said it could be the jaw pressing on my nerves caused some issues. No one knows...

thanks for the replies. i have health anxiety so as you can imagine all sorts went round in my head. ive always suffered with my jaw, so its not surprising i was diagnosed this. the shooting pains are more of an annoyance then anything else. occasional tension headaches are a pain too. but the pressure feeling (like someone is pressing their finger down on my face in various places) got me worried but im hoping the tablets help.

Hey, I too have a TMJ problem.

I had a root canal two months ago. Now for about two weeks, I can't chew properly. I'm also having sharp pain while opening my mouth. So I consulted a nearby dentist last week. He examined me and said it's TMJ problem. Luckily it can be treated just with some exercises.

So, I'm doing the exercises now.

I'm also having pain near the temple. But pain behind the eye? I don't think it is normal. I would suggest you visit your dentist as soon as possible.
