tmj is destroying my life.... its all started when my doctor removed my braces he spent 4 hours i know its hard to believe that but i was opening my mouth for 4 hours!!! I remember i told him the next day that i am having a pain on my jaw but he told me there is nothing wrong and that i should just do a warm water and everything will be fine.... anyway after one week i started to have a pain in my ear and i felt some pressure in my face i was suffering for one month and i got ANXIETY DISORDER i was crying fro weeks I thought that maybe there is something wrong with my mind and i didn’t know that i have tmj i went to so many doctors and when ever they check my ear they kept telling me that there is nothing wrong while i was having pain and they said i should go see a ENT doctor to make sure then i booked an appointment for ENT..... also my eyes start to hurt..... anyway i went to my ENT appointment and he checked then he said everything is fine and he said that i have TMJ and it’s probably happened because I opened my mouth for a long time... anyway he suggest to go and see a professional doctor for tmj.... and i did .... and yeah they confirmed that i really do have tmj disc ..... but i am still suffering from anxiety and its all started because of my tmj i cry alot and cant stop thinking ... i started a medication just 3 days ago with my doctor but my anxiety wont go away also i got inflamed muscles its hard for me to focus like before and i have so many weird symptoms its affecting my mental health 😦

Hi, my jaw locked open for few minutes during the lengthy dental procedure last year in April. I was able to maneuver it and close it. Almost 2 months later I got all kind of symptoms. Severe neck muscles spasms, extreme off balance feeling, fainting feeling, blurred vision and occasional headache above right eye. I was not able to even sit and have my head up. I visited ER 8 times, had all scans of head and neck taken and everything was normal but symptoms persisted. I have seen ENT and neurologists and no one seemed to know what is going on. Finally I linked it by myself to the jaw and went to see TMJ specialist. I was diagnosed with TMD and signed up for $5,000 splint therapy that suppose to relief all the symptoms. Three months later I felt much worst than before. I was completely bed ridden and not able to function. I seek second opinion and found great doctor. I was explain that my jaw must had been somehow misaligned and aggregated nerves. Overtime nerves caused muscle spasms and this caused dizziness. So in December 2018 I started medication treatment for nerve pain (I was not in pain by the way just felt like my nerves where fired up) and stopped splint treatment. Long story short I had and still have these looking like panic attacks feelings where I feel lightheaded and about to faint and I get sweaty hands and feet but nothing happens. I have never actually fainted. I was told by my doctor that this feeling is from aggravated nerves. And I have to agree because these days since the symptoms tremendously improved this feeling does not happen as often anymore. I have never suffer from anxiety or had any mental issues. Just a thought... could it be nerves causing it? Did you have MRi of your jaw or neck taken?

Hi, thank you so much for your reply and i hope you are fine now ... i swear i do feel the same thing that you mentioned no pain but all these weird symptoms... yes i did xray and C.T SCAN my ENT did for my face and he said everything is good and my tmj doctor asked for xray then he thought that it could be the wisdom teeth but then he asked to do C.T SCAN and it showed that there is nothing wrong with my wisdom teeth but tmj disc and nerves he said ...and now i do acupuncture for my nerves and muscles because doctor told me there is inflammation..... my anxiety started when i had a training meeting I skipped my breakfast and when it became 12 pm i started to feel weird and i started to imagine things ( when ever i see any person or anything it stay on my mind like a image it’s happened during the training and i started to get scared then i got a panic attack then i calmed down but these images still i have them my brother told me it’s something normal but you focus so much on them) its like when you remember things from the past and you can imagine them in your brain not like you see them with your eyes they call it (mind eye) i hope you understand what i am trying to say... and now it became a habit and it got worse with this tmj symptoms and my overthinking... ☹️

My inflammation of both jaw joints was discovered on MRI I am not sure if CT scan can show this. Since December I am taking Nortriptyline for never pain and Meloxicam for inflammation. I also go once a week for a PT of my neck muscles and 2 a week acupuncture. The biggest relief I got from the 2 medications (especially the anti inflammatory one). For me the panic attacks seem more like something bad is about to happen to me but then again nothing is. I have another appointment on May 13 and suppose to receive occipital nerve block injections (steroids) to help my neck muscles. Are you seeing a good doctor? Did he give you any medication? If this is truly similar situation it will only get worst with time. My doctor told me that this illness was developing at least for couple of years in my case. I live in US east coast and can recommend doctor here. There are a lot of doctors out there that have not intentions of helping you but rather getting your money.
