TN

I have Been suffering for three months with TN but  just got diagnosed.

I went to dentist thinking I need a root canal.

I did get root canal and no pain relief. They said it was TMJ so

had night guard made which was not helping

the pain  had increased to 10 never sleeping

and I was taking so many

over the counter meds  ibuprofen ,Tylenol. 20 a day

My husband was concerned had to get into energency room

He called his doctor who was currently working on his back and had TMJ patients  he had worked on.

The doctor had a pain doctor who he recommended that would be in the office next day. We Got appt next day to check the TMJ and see if I could get pain relief.

the doctor checked my Tmj joints etc..  I explained history shooting pains

Sometimes constant Aching pains cheek, ear, jaw  headaches in temple and tooth pain gum pain  all on the right side.

Sometimes numb feeling in jaw . He said it was not TMJ at all

the night guard might be making it worse. It was Temprinal Nueralgia

he  prescribed carbamazepine  and pain reliver

it was like miracle for next few days the pain dropped to 2-3

still had pain but nothing like before.   I am relieved to find out what is causing pain.  I am schedule for nerve block. I will update when i know if it works.  My advice would go to medical doctor if your dentist endondist does not provide relief. Also I wish I had not waited so long.   I am schedule to see neurologist too.

I hope this info helps!

I’m so glad you’ve got a diagnosis of TN. The next step is to keep taking the Carbamaz until you find the dose that is best for you without too many side effects and also to get an MRI done to check for vascular compression of the Trigeminal nerve root. If that comes up clearly then the surgical interventions are very clear and if you were a good case for MVD, that’s by far the best way ahead.

Good luck to you and keep us informed of you progress.

    Keep safe
