TN caused by chemical irritation?

I am a 28 yr old flight attendant recently diagnosed with TN and on meds. I’m searching for what could have caused this and I believe it was toxic fumes from my airline’s uniforms. We are currently fighting in court and with the company to recall the uniforms because thousands of us have reported negative reactions ranging from hives to respiratory issues to hair loss to sinus issues to fertility/menstruation abnormalities just to name a few. Thousands of us wear look-a-like uniforms but there are thousands of disbelievers who continue to wear the toxic uniform around us and cause horrible & subtle proximity reactions. After hearing friends stories of chemical bronchitis and chemical pneumonia, I sincerely believe chemical irritation caused my TN. And finally to my question!! I can’t seem to find any info about chemical irrition causing TN other than that it happens. Is there a decisive way to prove/diagnose chemicals as the cause?

    Hi Nadia,

I'm so sorry that you're feeling upset by your diagnosis and the pain you're experiencing and understand completely. Everyone on this site has felt this despair and looked for a reason why this is happening to them. However, although your search for an answer has led you down this particular path, in my experience it does seem most  unlikely. I do believe that your colleagues may well find some truth in their suspicions but this particular disease happens within the brain and is quite likely to have been caused by some damage to the trigeminal nerve sheath, such as friction between the nerve and an artery or vein. in my 20 years+ of experience of this illness, I have never come across toxicity as a viable cause.

I strongly advise you to ask for an MRI scan which should give you an answer.but realise this is difficult in your financial situation.

We would all wish you the very best for the future and hope that you find an answer to your problems..

Gill, thank you for your kind response. I’ve done my MRI last week & will meet with my neurologist on Saturday to discuss the results. I’m just having a hard time reconciling being 28 having an illness that typical afflicts over 50 and having no indication of what caused it because I have no other health issues other than the burning eyes and rashes every time I go to work. I was hoping to get some clarity here but I guess I’ll just have to hope my MRI gives my neurologist answers. Again thanks for your time.

      Hello Again Nadia,

I really hope you find the best treatment for your problem. It must be a great disappointment to get this diagnosis at such a young age. It does happen in younger people although it usually affects those in late to middle age. Don't despair!  There are many ways to treat this including medication or various forms of surgery, and it can be kinder to some people than to others.so it's important to stay as positive as possible. Remember it's never terminal and there can well be long periods of remission.. I was diagnosed in my mid- fifties and I'm now 75 and at the moment in remission so try to keep your chin up, darling. You have your life to live so try not let this thing beat you  Gill,

Sorry for your TN diagnosis. I've had it so I know what it feels like. You can read my experiences by clicking on my name.

Toxic fumes can cause a lot of breathing and immune type disorders in the body but there really is no way for it to cause TN. TN is a technical malfunction in the body ( like faulty electrical wiring). Those of us that are unlucky to go through it, have a nerve and a blood vessel physically touching each other and over time the sheath that protects / insulates the nerve wears off. Then it's like live wire touching live wire and hence the shocks. Who has told you that toxic fumes can cause this kind of wiring malfunction in your body? I'm curious to know how you came to that conclusion?
