To eat chocolate or not to eat......

Well...again...you ask 10 people...you'll get an answer right down the middle so I'll ask on here. I know with Peri and menopause sugar isn't good...neck it's not good in general for anyone and you always hear watch your caffeine (because of hormones) So, which is better...dark chocolate or milk chocolate if you had to choose one. I know a lot of women have fibrocystic breasts so I'm asking this question to try and get a better understanding just how much chocolate affects the breasts and hormones if really at all. What do you think?

Speaking of sugar, I did a little experiment when I had to get my routine blood work done. I was suppose to fast for the blood sugar test but didn't and instead I took a cinnamon capsule the night before and one the morning of my test. I didn't mention that I had eaten and my glucose went from 98 to 86. Keep in mind, I don't take a Whole lot of medicine so it had nothing to interfere with. Also, if you look into a cinnamon supplement, make sure it's Ceylon cinnamon and not cassia which is what most cinnamon is.

Lyn...............dont know if choc affects breasts, but i have had low blood sugar for 35 years, and its worse since meno, but has settled somewhat now thank goodness since post, dark chocolate is better as its more natural form of sugar and what they call an unrefined sugar, but only in moderation during meno as it will send your sugars up, then crash later, so eat protein with it, milk choc is worse as it has added milk which has lactose in, so is what you call  a refined carb very bad for sugar levels, dark, or unrefined sugars, are still be bad for your sugar level, if you take in too much, whilst your sugars are erratic stay off the chocolate, but have it inbetween in moderation, stick with dark, and follow it with protien of some sought for when the crash hits.

I like to eat the Brookside dark chocolate pomegranate or acai berry which about 16 pieces equal 10 mg of caffeine. I was just wondering for women who have fibrocystic breasts, what is a safe caffeine level to where it won't bother the breasts in that way.

Lyn ..............well both pomegranate and acai berry great for for staving off diabetes, have you tried looking into diabetic chocolate for caffeine, see if it comes in decaf form, or try from health food shop H&B sells chocolate may sell it  decaf you never know!

Good idea but I sure love getting the big ole bag at Sam's club of those Br8okside chocolates. If I feel like I'm eating too much sugar, I take a Ceylon cinnamon supplement and that brings my sugar down but I'll check to see if there is any chocolates for diabetics.

Hi Lynn.......... you can buy decaf chocolate, its by fair trade, but if one company do it, sure others will, yes you will know when your eating too much sugar, especially whilst on the menopause anyway, but if you can combine the two, low sugar diabetic choc with decaf choc, might be better for you, or if its the caffine your more concerned with just go with dark decaf, i only have one chocolate per day, not a bar, and one biscuit/ cookie, but some days dont have either simply because i know its too much for me, bloats me up straight away, having probs with low blood sugar, just messes my balances up, cant get away with these balancing conditions...............arrgh

Another thing I just thought of, is how is your water intake? If you don't drink enough water, that can also play havoc on sore muscles and joints especially during this time! I admit, I don't like water and as I get older, I don't get thirsty so I have to literally make myself drink. I don't drink sodas or coffee or anything else, I just don't get thirsty. So drink water!!!!!! I know it's hard but it will make you feel better...so I've heard. Lol😄

Lyn............i try to drink 3tres a day, especially if i get ny symptoms, helps with the fatigue etc, havent been keeping that up past couple days, so fatigue has returned slightly, never know for sure if its, salt you should put in, or, water, i mean how much is the right amount before you start diluting your salts, pretty sure its 3 ltres, but with chronic fatigue it will work one day then not the next, and the drs dont know why this is.............sounds about right for drs nowadays................haha

You drink what everyday? I didn't understand that. How does fluoride play a role with hormones? I know it's in toothpaste but like green tea or oolong tea is suppose to be rich in antioxidants but all tea has fluoride in it...so...good for you or more harmful to the hormones?

Sorry lyn thats 3 litres per day, no idea about the fluoride but interesting, if your concerned you could get a filter jug, cant have green tea im afraid triggers off one of my health probs.

I think i would have to say, that because of the important minerals un water i would say fresh water is a must to keep our blood volume up, and avoid mineral drops, like magnesium and potassium, whilst it can bring your salts levels up, too much water will dilute them, and that could become very serious, so i stick to 3 litres no more, like everything else in moderation, so, personally my blood volume is affected by my health probs, so never considered the fluoride, a certain amount of fluoride is good for us, but again in moderation.
