To Have Surgery or Not Have Surgery

I just visited my Podiatrist earlier today and he informed me that I had a plantar plate tear on my second toe that is causing it to completely cross over my big toe. I have also have hammertoe in my 2nd toe that needs correction. The Dr. did not say one way or another that I should have surgery but my Partner is an ER Physician and is encouraging me to have surgery to correct the plantar plate along with the hammer toe sooner rather than later. In his opinion the damage is too great to heal on its own and will only get worse.

What would this group recommend? I do work from home and would be able to continue work from bed with my foot elevated utilizing my laptop and work telephone. We do travel a lot and that usually entails a lot of walking and activity. I want to be able to continue to do that.

Thoughts anyone? Thank you in advance for your input.

before deciding on any surgery get another opinion and research, research, research. today we need to be our own self advocates for health. podiatrist only can operate below the ankle. also see a ortho doc.
