To take the contraception pill or not during peri symptoms

Hi All

So 9 months ago I posted a discussion on how I had been treated at the doctors for my peri symptoms and advised you all they would not give me HRT as i was on the pill and therefore had more hormones than HRT supplied. A few of you advised how you feel and that you had come of the pill. I just wanted to know if you found that your symptoms improved?

I am seriously considering stopping the pill especially as they have just taken me off the combined pill and put me on a mini pill which is different hormones, And i gotta say i feel worse if that is possible with the change.

I am now on levothyroxine for an underactive thryoid but according to the encrologist this is suffient at the moment for my thyroid levels so why do i feel so horrible still? Its got to be peri or the pill.

Can i have good or bad stories about whether you felt better on or off the contraception pill please?

Thanks for reading

Kind regards

Kerry

Hi Kerry, I was also on the bcp however, having said this, if I felt worse my doctor would change the pills until we found one that stopped the symptoms. If you're feeling worse, not sure how long you've been on it but if in 2 weeks you're still feeling the same go back to your doctor and ask for something else. I made the mistake of going off the pills too soon. Shortly, after coming off of them my symptoms worsened by 100 fold. It was a nightmare I barely remember because my doctor put me on alternative meds that help with menopause. But when I stopped all of them I had the worst hormonal experience, I don't wish it on anyone. Also, any life changing event will make it even more intense, from mood swings to feeling like you're 90 to soaking the bed with hot flashes and 100 other symptoms that'll make you think you've got a disease or have osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, or that something bad is going to happen so you refuse to drive or go out. The hormones will do a 180 turn on you that will have your head dizzy, literally. I'd recommend you go back to your doctor and tell her/him how the pills are making you feel, I'm sure from my experience in working in a ob/gyn that he/she will change it out to something else.

Thank you for responding. I do have an app with the doctor on the 23rd Feb to discuss why they changed my pill without talking to me first so will see how I am feeling then as that would have been 3 months i was on them so should know if anything was going to change by then.

Kerry, my doctor gave me two weeks to see if the pills made a slight change, for better or worse. Three months like that is just awful. I would call and demand you have them changed to what you had before because you feel awful.

Ah that is interesting to hear they told you 2 weeks. Will definately be ringing up to change the appointment to sooner as I am literally on the floor today and am struggling to work. I cannot take anymore x

All BC pills are very different in their composition.  While there are some women who do really well with the first one they try, others do not.  And some, like me, never did well on a BC pill.  And I mean NEVER.

But the point is, each women is different and the pill is not one size fits all.  So if this one is horrible, you can always try another.
