Hi Sam you should avoid Soya as its cross contaminated with wheat, due to various factors ie., fields its grown in and storage. Sorry new to this forum but i also have OAS. I saw a specialist recently too and it wasn't very helpful. I have learnt you have to be your own Doctor as everyone with allergies responds individually!

hi linny, thank you so much for responding to me, i have spoken to the experts (hmm we'll see) in Leicester and to be honest i found them useful because i always knew something was a miss apart from being coeliac! at least i now know what i can have and can't have, it's more than i knew. i have just discovered how to make soup something brand new i never thought i could make, even my husband had it and he likes nothing gluten free. i hope i have 1 more appointment with them, but with this virus thing it was cancelled - so i'm alone. can ask a really odd question - are. you a meat eater? u was told on being diagnosed coeliac i'd be best to have meat in my diet, i've been veggie since aged 15. i am not adding extra things in my diet if i don't need them... i just want to not if i have enough vit d and protein. wish me luck, i don't have soya, beans or pulses at all, including coffee which makes me very green! 😫

Hi Sam yes i do eat meat and fish. I am going through tests at the moment to see if ive definitely got coeliac but like you due to the Covid outbreak appointments are delayed. ive kept a food diary for a couple of months and that has helped. But last night used a knorr chicken stock pot to flavour some soup and ive been bad today. It says gluten free but as im so sensitive to cross contamination it must have affected me.

hi linny, i know i have coeliac disease, i know i have oral allergy syndrome and i know i have been veggie since aged 15. this is going to be tough. there's things i miss and things i don't. with meat and fish for you being coeliac will be easier because they naturally don't have gluten in them unless you breadcrumb your fish or have chicken kievs for instance. the problems i seem to have is leg pain, sciatica, exhaustion and boredom with food. i don't if my diet is rich enough in protein or vitamins/minerals. what stock cube did you use? i use the Knorr veggie ones and i have no problems! i have problems with variety not what is out there. if you have already followed and tracked your diet already, do you know if you can contact a dietitian at all? see where your nearest one is

po you could look online for coeliac resources or coeliac uk maybe able to help even if you haven't been diagnosed. good luck, let me know how you get on if you want.

Thanks Sam, as we are all confined to our houses I've been doing a lot of research and thats how I came upon this forum. Can i ask people what bread they use please. Ive been buying the Genius loaf as it says on it 'suitable for coeliacs' . I seem ok with that one but as soon as i think Ive cracked it i get a flare up. As with the stock cube. The coeliac website says the kallo stock cubes are the best. Have people tried these? If your husband/partner is eating food with gluten do you need a separate toaster fir example. Thanks.

hi linny, i can understand how you'd feel churned up due to this lockdown, i am trying to stay calm and just do all the normal things i do! i go out, i go shopping, i don't see anyone (nothing new there) i think it's so warm, my vitamin d is low so i am getting in the sun daily. genius brown bread, lovely normal type bread, good because it's brown and some of the tastiest, if you're diagnosed coeliac you can have the on prescription which means you don't have to pay for it! don't panic about stuff going wrong, you'll know if it does, just remember what sets you off.... my husband is pure omnivore, he eats anything he wants, he's lucky. our cupboards are split to coeliac dtuff and non-coeliac stuff. i wish you luck keep writing things down and keep speaking to people on here if you want.

Ah thanks, its great to have this support. People who have been suffering from this condition are really the experts about how to cope, because of their experience!

exactly, that's why the words 'experts' associated with doctor's is that way! can i ask you a stupid question, can i buy gluten free, pea protein free veggie sausages and burgers? i want to eat something other than cheese! who would i ask. also are chocolates that are made in factories that may contain, safe to eat? my husband's bought me my favourite chocolates but i don't know if i can have them or not?

I wouldn't feel qualified to advise Sam. What i've been doing is googling the make and description of food and usually something comes up ( sometimes after ive consumed it and got symptoms back!) Just found out instant coffee set me off. Thats due to possible cross contamination. It said i should be alright with coffee beans so I'll try that when i feel better! It usually takes me a good 24 hours to get over being 'glutened' how about uou?

hi linny, as i get ill so quickly i have just stuck to things i know i can have easily without symptoms. i am frightened of trying anything new, that's why i need a dietitian's support. i won't even try any sausages, egg, burgers etc. i have a fear when it comes to food. my diet is blame, boring and have food because i need it. i don't like it any more. i have tried to get support off coeliac uk over certain products but i don't think they can sort everything! all i wonder is if something I made in a factory where gluten is would i be safe? mine is as severe as yours i don't think?! i only say this because if my husband eats in the same room as me it doesn't make me ill. i feel stuck. the dietitian needs to contact me. i wish you luck. x

Totally understand your fear Sam. However, from what i understand we should be fine with fresh fruit and veg and eggs too, fish and meat ( although i know you're a veggie) Any food packaged and produced in a factory is open to cross contamination. Also soya and oats very likely to be cross contaminated. Probably other things too like the instant coffee that 'got' me! Good luck with sorting out a diet that suits you x

Hi Linny, I think I have been told so much by so many people my poor brain can't take much more. I need the truth, I need to know exactly what this is and isn't, what I can have what, can't have and how to add any food back in at all. By cutting out bread and wheat they've have just worsened my diet! I need things in my diet not any more out! I have always said I should be on the milkshake replacement things as lactose is the only thing I can have without any reaction. I am sueing my last doctor's probably and this may then be escalated up to the dietary service too. I just wanted 1 thing since I was little, but due to every health professional buggering up my health my child will never come to live with me. This is NOT my fault, I did nothing wrong, someone took the pxx out of my health. That's truly how I feel - that bad! I put a brave face on it but my heart is crushed.
