To walk for miles every day? Is this part of the recovery.

Posted , 17 users are following.

I have had no instructions given by anyone regarding walking for miles every day. It surprises me to  read  it has been treated as  essential by some people in the discussion group.

I have had a lot of physiotherapy and posture, strengthening of the various muscle groups, balance, relaxation and return to a full normal life have been the main emphasis.

I am 8 weeks post op and am walking without sticks and coping with normal living,

Am I missing something here?.

I potter round the house and go for a walk round the village and thats plenty for me. Im only 43 and quite fit considering but i have problems with other joints and this stupid leg length discrepancy which makes EVERYTHING 100% more effort to do, so im happy that i can manage that much without major pain. Im 6 weeks post op tomorrow but there is no way i can manage a mile yet

      Hi Helen

Sounds like your doing what you need to do

      And

If you got a step counter on your phone I think you'd be surprised just how many steps you do 'just pottering round'

Good post this..so many differing opinions even amongst experts.

Leaves us wondering the best way to recovery..or even if there is one?

Some say walk as far as you feel comfortable with others saying no more than 1 mile for the first 6 months.

I was walking 5 mls after 16wks,did I do the wrong thing?

looks like we each have to make our own individual choices.

Even amongst surgeons there is conflicting advice,no wonder they seem to be reticent in giving post op treatment.

Im just going to keep doing my own thing..walking the dog a few mls and 10 mls on the static bike every few days..which doesn't seem to be doing any harm.

How our own body feel seems to be the best way to judge it.
