Toddler Diarrhoea- Living with it

My 3 year od daughter was diagosed with toddler diarrhoea one month ago, I am know trying to get help through the NHS with potty training her on the bowel side, this is proving very hard! My daughter diet is good and the the only thing was she drinkng to much squash which has been cut down now. I am concerned that this could go onto to 5/6 years old and that she could get a complex about this when she is older, if anyone has found a specialist or has any advice this would be great

    Hello

My son, 2 yrs 5 mths has been suffering with this since birth, finally have had it confirmed today after many trips to hospital for tests but now they are discharging him as there is nothing they can do. I am very concerned about potty training, he is showing no interest as one is has no warning of when he needs to go and two because it is so messy, he also hates having his nappy changed. I am looking into other research areas. will pass on any findings.

My little boy is 3years 3 months and I have long suspected he has toddler diarrhoea. He is currently undergoing tests at our local hospital to confirm this and rule out anything else. I am struggling with potty training too especially as he needs to be potty trained before he starts nursery. He shows no interest at all. His creche suggested putting him in normal pants but as his nappies can't contain the diarrhoea I am loath to inflict normal pants and the embarrassment of constant clothes changes on him. Any advice would be good.

Apparently my 32 month son has this - there is no help from anywhere within the NHS - I have even tried the Department of Health to no avail. My 17 month old son also appears to have the same symptoms - so I have double the trouble with the nappies - if anyone else out there has any help or advice on potty training I too would be eternally grateful. The eldest of the 2 will start state nursery in September and I am at a loss as to what to do.

My daughter 2 years 8mths has also been diagnosed with this. As far as potty training is going, we've got the number 1 sorted and she does try to get to toilet or potty if she needs a number 2, however 50% of the time she doesn't make it. I don't know what to do except put a nappy on her when we go out, but as others have mentioned, I am concerned about what might happen as she gets a bit older and has an accident at school or something and how the other kids will treat her. I have been told to up the fat in her diet and cut out juice and squash. Anyone else have any other suggestions?I

    Hi everyone,

I have a 2 half year old boy with what a suspect to be toddler diarrhoea, as same as most of you i am concerned re the potty training lark however i would like to put forward some suggestions of things i have tried which has made difference in his motions.

Mainly i have found changes to diet to improve no2's; seriously up the intake of high fibre foods ie weetabix (my son now eats this with boiled water and tiny bit of honey jus to giv sum taste), brown bread, rice or cous cous, also switch to semi skimmed milk rather than whole, i have cut out all fruit juice and cordial as these really do trigger situation of runs, mine has fruit tea and even peppermint tea which helps not to make him feel left out when out with friends children having their juice boxes/fruit shoots etc.

    hope this helps

My son was diagnosied with toddler's diarrhoea when he was 2, he is now five and a half and he still has it.

We managed to get him potty trained but he was over three and a half before he was completly trained. By that age he was able to understand a little more and to recognise the warning signs. He still doesn't get a lot of warning when he needs to go to the toilet, and if he says he needs to go then we need to find a toilet quickly. I now know where all public toilets are in town and where ever we go I make sure I find the toilets just in case. When he started at pre school I had to explain what he had and that it wasn't contagious. They were happy to deal with it and to change his nappies. I also had to explain to his teachers when he started school. He only had one accident at school last year and that was because he was mucking about in the toilets with his friends and didn't go in time!!

The main thing with this that bothers me is that he gets tummy pain with it. He isn't bothered by it just says that his tummy was hurting again.
