Toe fusion

Hi, I had both toes fused just on three months ago. My right foot at this stage seems perfect, although at the end of day and especially hot ones they still swell. However my left toe doesn't touch the ground and now Im tending to walk on the outter side of the foot. I was told by the surgeon to have physio?  Not sure what exercises they will show me to do to stop walking on the outter part? I feel like the ball beneath the big toe is in the way???  anyone had/have this problem?  Thankyou

Just wondering if you had both toes done at the same time?  How did you manage?  I need the same surgery on both feet.

Yes both at the same time. I would say that the first few weeks were a bit of a struggle as I do live on my own. I was given crutches and I was very slow when mobile. Everyone's pain thresh hold differs, I only took pain killers for three days after the surgery. I had 7 weeks off work and not able to drive for 6... I was able to swim after the stitches had closed completely (about 3 weeks after surgery) and this was a blessing for me as I was able to convalesce at home and in the pool, needless to say I have a great tan!!  Goodluck if you should go ahead.

Thank you for the info.  You have been a great help.  If you live by yourself and survived surgery on both feet, I guess I can too!  All the best to you, and I'll keep following the discussion to check on your progress...

I had a fusion done on my right toe about 2 months ago now. I had a metal plate put in my foot instead of a pin. At first I was walking on crutches for about a couple of weeks and then he told me to walk on my heel. Well now I just went to have Xrays done to see if everything is ok. And he said it looks good. But I told him that I now have this problem with my toe where it is raised up in the air and the ball of my foot feels like Im walking on a hard ball. He told me that I should go and see a doctor for a orthotic sole for my shoe. He never told me anything about physio. Sorry to hear that you have the same problems too. So what are you planning to do. Love 2 hear from you.
