Toe pain after ankle surgery

Hello everyone!
I'm 16 months post op (ankle operation). My doctor prefers I get the screws and pins removed around my 24th month (8 screws). My toes (3rd and 4th) still burn and I get shooting pains. At least 3 times everyday. They hurt a lot, they don't disable me from walking, but they really do hurt a lot. I'm worried. Anyone else experiencing this? Thanks guys!

I am 13 months post-op. I live in Los Angeles, and my surgeon is the top foot and ankle specialist at Cedars Sinai and USC. I visited with 14 different doctors around the country before selecting him (and several of the other doctors recommended him). I also met with him 5 times. Bottom line - he never recommends removal of screws unless they are sticking out or have come loose. My two outer toes are still numb. No burning or swelling. Shooting pain 1/week for a second. My ankle is "beginning" to fuse. He believes the problem was that I have had 4 prior surgeries which adversely affected the blood supply. Therefore, I started taking daily shots of Forteo, Human Growth Hormone (25% of the normal amount), Bone stimulator 3 hrs /day, Vitamin D3 (10,000), Calcium and B-Complex. If he wants to operate again to remove screws- check with another surgeon to see if it is necessary or an unnecessary surgery.

Thank you! It's the numbness and burning that scares me! I do think I will need to have the screws removed asap, I do feel their presence 🙁...
