Posted , 7 users are following.

I'm 6 weeks post op and everything has gone well and the surgeon is happy but my toe has slightly drifted again but not as it was but the gap between the little and big toe is non existent. ive been reading other discussions and people are saying they used toe spacers?! I am using one but not sure it is the correct on to use.

I hope someone can help please?

Many thanks

The same thing happened with my wife. Her doctor said it was normal. Spacers did not help at all

      Thanks Mark.

Did the Dr say not to use the toe spacers or just didn't mention it?

The doctor did not mention spacers until we asked. He said that those are useless

    hi,

i have had 2 major foot operations this year by a very very careful surgeon!

imagethe first one was end of March and was a joint replacement as the joint was non existent and cystic .. he has adamant that I have a spacer fir at least six months! the second one was plates, screws and bone graft...8 weeks ago. i am still non weight bearing until after the third xray in December... again spacer fir a year he tells me!! he is very strong about it as he says after the big toe can move before its stable, i get the best ones from Boots as they are fairly wide... its doing the trick !! imageimageimage

the before and after photos!! i think give it a try ...especially through night!

    good luck

      Thank you for this.

I bought a toe spacer which is comfortable. I will wear this when i am at home. I am wearing my fitflop sandals at the moment as they are the most comfortable. i am glad i can still wear them.

I am 8 weeks post opp. Bunion removed, toe realigned and second toe done. After my first week appt the Dr wrapped my foot so my toe was wrapped separately. At 4 weeks when I was allowed to take the wrap off at night, I was given a spacer to wear during the day. Went last week for another post op appt and she gave me another one. I do remember the nurse handing her one and she told her it was too small. I am walking now with a surgical shoe and compression socks but I still wrap my foot with gauze making sure to wrap the toe so it stays separate. The Dr told me that if it is wrapped like this I don't need the spacer. Only when I just wear the compression sock do I use the spacer. It has helped keep the toe straight and the gap noticeable. You may want to make sure you have the correct size spacer.

      Thanks.

My surgeon and Doctor haven't mentioned to me wearing a toe spacer.

I Spoke to my Physiotherapist today and she said if nobody has mentioned it, don't wear it.

      I am at a loss.

That doesn't make sense but I would talk to the surgeon and doctor. I will take a picture of how my surgeon showed me how to wrap up my foot and post it (hopefully I'll remember). It is useful for the swelling and keeping my toe aligned.

Do you mean it doesn't make sense in the fact that nobody has mentioned wear a toe spacer?

I'm 1yr PO Chevron Bunionectomy Rt foot only, and have been using Correct Toes as spacers on both feet, even the non-surgical foot as preventative measure and pair them w Injinji toe socks. Highly recommended! Give them a try.
