Toilet seat height

What height of raised toilet seat I should get please.

Joint school told me to 2 inches would be fine given the height of my toilet

but, now that I have it, it doesn't feel as if it will be correct height when I have

my hip replaced.  I feel it should be higher.

Any advice gratefully received.

Thanks in advance.

Linda

Thank you everyone who replied to me.  Sorry not to have answered you all individually yesterday, had a domestic crisis and I'm just waiting for workmen to arrive at 9.30 today.

Your comments were a great help .

I have been given a toilet frame by my local OT but they do not supply the toilet seat.  I was advised about measurements but the seat I bought just didn't feel high enough but, judging by you comments it will be fine.

Workmen just pulling up so most go .

    Thank you all again

You've already had lots of good information from the others. I agree with all that, but when you go out you don't have the equipment. You can, however, sit and stand without breaking the 90 degree rule if you stick your operated leg out in front of you and just use your good leg. Not easy unless you have something to push on but generally you can find something solid to help you up or down.

    Hope your recovery goes well

Good point. I avoided going to the loo when out anywhere since there’s not always a disabled one ( which generally is higher or at least there’s plenty of handles to hold on to.)  I took a foam cushion in my mums car too to keep me higher.

Try home depot. They sell them. But I went to a surgical supply place.  They delivered it and even installed it for me,  Just measure to make sure your area is wide enough for it.  I measured from the wall on one side and have a sink and vanity on the other side.  I paid about $55 and am still using it 12 weeks later and will continue for a few months until I am healed if that ever happens.  Still walking with a limp on the non surgical leg.  It seems shorter. The surgical leg is longer!  I bought my toilet seat at a place called Caligor on 1st Avenue in NYC.  There is also Falk on Frist Avenue. Check them out.  You can give them the measurements on the phone and they will help you find the correct size.  I am short so 20 inches total from the floor was good for me.
