Toilet seats

Hi  the hospital gave me a raised toilet seat . When can you use a  normal height toilet seat in restaurant or friends house etc ?

    I went out for coffees and things like that with hubby to keep me sane the first few weeks but didnt really go to friends houses ...they came to me.

    If i was having coffee.......they all have disablet loos, high seats, and a bar to hold onto

      What I was amazed at was . One week post op I had to go to clinic to check on my weepy wound . Went to disabled toilet before I left and found a normal height toilet !

      Perhaps they should invent an inflatable one we can take with us when we go out!

      or has someone invented one already ..........?

    To be honest, never, ever found this a problem. Got rid of mine within a few days. Just takes common sense to be careful how you manoeuvre.

    Mary,

     They told us to wait 8 wks. However, in the States, the normal toilets are really low, especially after using the raised toilet seat. It's hard to squat down that low after surgery and I am only 5'4". I ended up buying one of the new taller toilets for my home and try to avoid public restrooms. This seems to be the one thing that remains the most uncomfortable for me. Just be careful you don't bend forward too far.

    Hi Mary. I haven't raised my toilet and been out couple times. Just need to be careful and it should be fine. I am two weeks post op and managing well. Good luck x

    There is a portable toilet seat lift here in the USA, but I have not acquired one yet.

    I bought myself a 6" raised toilet seat a few weeks ago, ready for my op 2weeks ago.

    i am quite tall and not a light weight and my biggest regret is not having got one ages ago!.  It was agony getting up and down with my mangled hip.

    friends and family think it's hilarious as some of their feet don,t touch the ground!  I sit there in state, on my throne, so much more comfortable!

    If you visit a cafe or restaurant, they usually have disabled toilets.  These are great, with loads of room and bars and handles to grab onto, so you should be okay there.  If you go to a friend's house or anything like that, just be careful how you sit down and try to keep the operated leg straight out in front of you and push yourself up with the other one, if you can grab hold of something to help, that's even better, even a wall is a bit of help.  I gave my raised toilet seat back after 6 weeks.

    Wish I had one!  I had my thr sept. 26.  Had a hi riser til I came to fla.  Now I use different angles to get up....none easy.  Not sure if it is ever going to be easy to get up from these low toilets.

      How low is your toilet?

      why not have a look on Amazon?  They have an amazing selection of raised toilet seats from as low as £10 up to luxury ones around £400!

      you just screw them on to your loo, no fuss or bother.  Good Luck!

      If you are in uk the hospital provide one and you can rent them from your local Red Cross I believe .

      Yes, thank you for your response.  I am in fla. For another month or so and I believe I will get a permanent raised toilet as I don't think I will ever be able to lift off as I did when I was a few years younger!  Permanent home is in mass.
