Told I can start to bear weight after acilles rupture but really nervous

Hi! I had the best news on Tuesday from my specialist telling me I can slowly to start to bear weight on my leg! Only thing is I'm really nervous. I tried a bit last night, didn't hurt but once I sat down had slight pain in my achilles. I guessing this is normal as it's had 5.5 weeks of no movement and no pressure placed on it. I was told that in 4 weeks I should be walking without crutches (still in boot) I'm now doing slight movement / exercises of my foot, just up and down movements. Am I being real silly being nervous / scared to start weight bearing? neutral

If you bear weight and have no PAIN in you AT, then all good, there is a difference between pain and felling of a strech!!

Yeah no pain at all, just after - probably from the pressure. So good knowing things are healing and can now see myself coming out the other side of this hideous injury!

    Hi Ness,

only natural to be scared don't want to undo the good you have done so far.

i am 10 weeks in and have been given great news after wearing my boot for all this time. Last heel lift taken out so foot flat now. I no longer have to wear boot inside house but boot outside just to protect my foot I guess. I was scared to walk on my foot used one crutch just in case but able to walk a little round the house unaided now and feel great. Off to physio next week can't wait.

Hi Karen, that's great news for you, exciting times!! I am taking it slow but can walk with one crutch but very slowly at this stage. My foot still swells up heaps at night so tend to take it easy in the evenings. Can't wait to not wear the boot in bed, it's so uncomfortable. It's hard starting to walk in a boot but I bet it's even more nerve raking walking bare foot for the first time. In the boot it feels real secure and safe but would feel so much different without it.

Stick with it and only do a little at a time, keep your foot elevated and take your boot off for a short time to let your foot get some air. I started to take my boot off for 10 mins at bed time or in the evening as I could feel it getting hot and swelling. I guess I was lucky as my swelling seemed to all of a sudden go right down. It does get better and all of a sudden lots of milestones all at once. Good luck Ness.
