Tomato and acid reflux

Hi,

those who get reflux as a consequence of being glutened, please tell me how quick after eating gluten food you notice reflux/heartburn. Immediately or after few hours or even later?

I was 23 days on gluten free diet and my heartburn was disappearing bit by bit.

But yesterday I ate tomato sauce on pizza at 4 p.m. (I didn’t eat tomaro for 6 month as I wasn’t sure if it is causing me reflux, so I am not sure if it can be the cause). At 6 p.m. I took 30mg of lansoprazol (I take it every evening). Than I ate puff pastry with gluten at 8 p.m.

At 2 a.m. I woke up because of the most horrendous acid reflux ever.

This means 10 hours after eating tomato sauce on pizza (not directly tomato) and 6 hours after being glutened.

What do you think is more likely to be the cause?

 Thank you!!!

Aya

    Hello Aya,

Get real man!!!! If you have been diagnosed as a Coeliac, then you would have been warned that both the Tomato Sauce used pending its source, and the Pizza chosen, could well have accelerated your condition as they can both contain Gluten. Fancy selecting a Puff Pastry at 8.00pm, as well? I don't know why or how the Lansoprazol was taken. But, Bless your Gut!!

      Hello, David,

sorry, I forgot to mention that pizza was gluten free.

The problem is that I can’t be sure about coeliac disease because my blood test was just below the limit and I was on trial to see if I am or not. That’s why i tried.

Few days ago my bloating and gases and belching disappeared after 3 days of lactose free diet - the blood test was also just under limit but as I had diarrhea 3 hours after test, I was sure about that. And I just thought that maybe lactose intolerance was the only culprit and that I don’t have celiac disease at all. My main symptoms of being coeliac are low ferritin, low vitamin d and acid reflux, as bloating diarrhea gases were connected with lactose.

But after this experience I am quite sure about being celiac. The only doubt is the tomato sauce.

That’s why I am asking if it is possible that tomato sauce caused heartburn 8 hours after eating it, because this is now the only doubt of being coeliac.
