Ok so i suffered from tonsillitis alot as a kid but since leaving school iv managed to avoid it, until now. It started out on saturday night as feeling lethargic and sore throat to waking up sunday full blown agony and tonsillitis. Managed to get some antibiotics on tues afternoon (penecillin) big problem is its now wednesday night and im going on holiday early hours friday morning. So far im having no relief from pain using pain killers and im not sure when the antibiotics will kick in does anyone know? Also should mention that my gums are swollen and part is split which is all adding to the pain. Any hope of good news from anyone in terms of a miracle recovery by tomorow is welcomed...

You could have a dental clean by dentist. Food can get stuck

I have had 2 lots of antibiotics with littke success. I had ulcerated throat.

    But its been 10? Weeks.

    It means its not bacterial.

    May be Viral or allergic

It seems to me that you need an anti-biotic a rather than penicillin. If your gum has split, I would suggest also a trip to a dentist, just to be sure it's not a dental problem too.

For pain relief I use the extra strength paracetamol, you can buy these in any good supermarket.

i still have lingual tonsilitis and it is driving me nuts. i have two lots of antibiotics ( abx)

my gp on this visit decieded to consult the australian guidelines.

it says Penicillin  so i have a double dose of that. it seemed to work at first.

she has suggested i have two days in bed for the last - it must be 12 weeks.

i have a throat spray over counter, but naturopath one.

but this is something that you may understand - when i am in shower and washing my hair the soap goes down my throat by accident - it burns my throat. ( is it just me)

low dose antibiotics is also mentioned. which i was on but ENT said go off.

she also said surgery. so now i have to go back to ENT  - who suggested it may be

    an allergic reation ..

i have just had a marshmellow which has soothed my throat. it wont last long.

no spicy food. no fizzy drinks.

GERD should be considered but i have been on somac for ages and ENT 2 said it was not that. but my voice is affected. its an effort to speak.

i am desperate. its hard to talk.  it hurts to swallow. but eating soothes it.

i am not sleeping much due to pain ( tramadol does not touch the pain )

Hope your vacation went well. I just got tonsillitis even though I had them removed as a kid. Avoid antibiotics if at all possible. I discovered a MIRACLE relief from this ailment. Try gargling/pulling with coconut oil. I recommend Virgin or extra virgin coconut oil. I tried with virgin coconut oil for 8-10 minutes the evening I read about it and by morning noticed a huge difference. Have continued three times a day and I have almost zero pain (just my glands slightly sore). I'm eating apples without even suffering a single wince of pain.

so if you have tonsilitis post having them removed you probably have lingual tonsilitis.

if it continues for ages.. it is Chronic lingual tonsilitis.  the part left beihind where tonsils where pulled from.

it actually feels like. you have just had your tonsils out that is how painful it is.

after 14 weeks the pain had dropped .. to just aggravating... keep throat moist.

i have not tried the oil. but it makes sense. to soothe them. but long term.

if they are infected for a long time.. i want them out.

cos 14 weeks a time x twice a year . is most of the year. they annoy me all year.

did you check with dentist ? i have had ulcerated mouth really bad on and off.. sores on lips.. it could be that i ahve low grade staph infection.

i responded to penicillan.. which is the medication use for tonsilitis.

but not to amoxyl .. x 2... so i was wondering about auto immune.. allergies. etc.

i am sticking with bacteria. its expensive to ahve to keep going to doctors

i have another ENT appt next wed. but as my grand daughter is sick. i am not sure if i should cancel and wait tiill it gets bad or show the specialisit now whilst they are medium. its not the pain that drives you demented.. like it was.. i think i will cancel

my big thing is i ahve a wedding next year with no 4 son and i dont wnat to be sick then..  how are you all going ?
