too much or too little stomach acid?

Can anybody help. Our family has a strong esophrageal cancer history. After experiencing long periods of bloating I had an endoscopy for piece of mind really. It came back saying I had a hiatus hernia and esophragitus. And i started on omperazole 40mg. I requested a follow up endoscopy after 4 months, although bloating completely cured I started to feel heartburn for pretty much the first time. I'm still on the omperazole. Anyway the endoscopy now shows I've possibly got Barratts,( I'm waiting for biopsy results) in addition to still having esophragitus and a hernia which is bigger. I saw my doc today and explained how worried I was about the BA and also the esophragitus and he suggested I go onto Ranitidine 300mg in addition to the omeprazolve. But I've read so much on Internet about it could be too little stomach acid that causes a problem. I now have pains that a never had before. Can anybody shed any light. Obviously I'm mainly worried about my progression to Barratts due to our strong family history.
