Too much salt in my diet, need advice please.

I finally found a diet I can stick to without craving too much about other foods but the problem is that it contains a lot of salt, like 12 grams a day which is more than what is suggested by the doctors. But I knew that the sodium levels have to be balanced with the potassium levels so if enough potassium is eaten, then 12 grams of salt is not a problem, is this right or am I missing something?

I'm no expert here, but if the recommended daily amount of sodium is around 2.5g I think 12g on a regular basis is pushing it, even balanced.

When you say "salt" you mean sodium, right?

Hi, by salt I mean actual salt. 12 gr of salt contains 4.8 gr of sodium.

check your blood pressure regularly, if you don't see any changes then you should be fine, consult with your doctor.

Why dont you swap to a potassium based salt, like Lo Salt, which has 70% less sodium. Better still stop adding salt to your diet, you'll soon change your taste buds

Drop your sodium to <1500 mg and up your Potassium to 4700 mg. Take your BP after a week or so and report back.
