Took MRI & it was clear-21 year old college student that desperately needs help

Hi there. About a year and a half ago, at age 20, I started to to have serious bladder problems, shaking/tremors in my hands, and extreme fatigue. I went to my GP who then sent me to a neurologist. Immediately after I listed my symptoms she said MS, this instantly freaked me to because my grandpa had crippling MS and was in a wheelchair in his 30's and passed away in his 60's. I have no idea if genetics plays a role in MS but it is was still scary because my only memories of him where from his final days. She scheduled me for an MRI, and everything came back clear. Now here I am at 21 and my symptoms have unexpectedly and rapidly gotten worse. My feet are freezing, from my feet to my calf I have a tingly feeling, I also get the tingly feeling in my hands, my vision goes extremely blurry/hazy, I still have bladder issues, I also feel a sort of numbness that is difficult to describe, on top of that I have Become extremely depressed and developed severe anxiety,I cry randomly for no reason multiple times a week, and sometimes its just hard to think or get thoughts out of my mind (I don't know if that makes sense but I don't know how else to describe it). As I said the symptoms got worse pretty rapidly, his that normal? If my MRI came back clear is it even possible I could still have MS? or could this just be some other random thing? I just really don't know where to go from here and am overwhelmed with it all. So I would be extremely grateful for any insight, help, guidance, advice, or information. Thank you so much for taking time to read this, and best wishes to you!y

    Hi Kaitlyn,

I know this is easier said than done but it's true that when we start having symptoms and then try to find information on the internet our minds play tricks on us.  First of all, no lesions is a really good sign.  There is a loose genetic link with MS but I stress the word loose.  There are other factors as well such as lack of vitamin D, environmental as well as childhood trauma.  Even motor vehicle accidents can play a role.  Truth is, no one really knows for sure.  I know you're feeling lousy and scared and although it's good to be informed, try not to over- research.  Also, remember that common things happen commonly.  In other words, shaking/ tremors and fatigue can be caused by low iron which would not be uncommon for a young female.  Thyroid can cause many symptoms as well.  Bladder issues could be a separate thing altogether.  My best advice is this:  No lesions means the cup is half full in fact more than half!  Ask your doctor to do a full blood work-up.  MS is a disease of exclusions which means that all other things must be ruled out.  See a Specialist regarding bladder issues.  Always get a second or third opinion.  Eat really well, take Vitamin D, get enough sleep, exercise (even going for a walk) everyday and go out and be with people everyday.  Whether you have MS or not the fear is real and we are all here to offer help and encouragement.  Please feel free to keep us posted.

    Warmest wishes,

    Carolyn

Was your MRI head AND spine? You don't say. Lesions in the spinal cord could cause many of your symptoms and wouldn't have show up on a head MRI

Only head, and head came back inconclusive bc I had an earring in my cartilage that they didn’t take out that slightly messed up the MRI.

my bf is 21 also has all the same symptoms and it is possible that you could still havbe MS even though it doesnt show up on anything. some people get diagnosed by symptoms alone.
