Tooth abscess natural treatment?

Posted , 3 users are following.

I have had a root canal followed by crowning of my molar tooth a few years ago. After accidentally biting hard an abscess has formed at the base of the tooth between the root and jawline causing my tooth to be lifted slightly out of its socket that causes pain if the upper tooth touches it. Of course the obvious solution would be an extraction as I'm not interested in redoing a root canal but if there's any alternative or natural treatment worth trying before that then I'd be happy to give it a try.

Thanks!

It may be a one-off abscess that antibiotics can sort out – worth trying before you go down the irreversible route of having the tooth extracted.

Thanks Sue; I've had a course of antibiotics, I forgot to mention, with which it did subside until it relapsed a few days ago. My Xray reveals a dark patch below the root.

Having taken Antibiotics and now a probable relapse would you you advise an extraction? If so, should I retake antibiotics since the infection is prevalent? Thanks.

I'd go back to my dentist and ask what they think!

I will fight the infection with regular on going oral health hygiene,if you think the antibiotic resolve the infection then it is wise to keep it out by regular brushing twice a day after meals and a good old home remedy of salty water to goggle three times a week to keep the bugs out, alternatively use mouth rinser sorry forgot the name out of my head, you know what I mean and regular flossing to kick the bugs out from between teeth and finalla regular visit to the dentist will all help to save your teeth for the long run. As often dental infection is hard to treat with antibiotic as they do come back unless the teeth is pull out to end the infection especially if it deep into the root canal. Hope that is helpful. I do have the similar problems and manage to keep the infection out with just basis and consistent oral health care.cheers

How did you get on? I have an abscess and am taking metronidazole. Just wondering if that will cure the abscess or if I should pop it? All advice greatly received.
