Tooth infection - agonizing pain any advice please

Like so many here my infection started as a niggling pain in my bottom lefentist t molar. I am due to have a root canal on this tooth in 2 weeks time but the next day the little niggle had exploded into unctrollable head cutting off agonizing pain, i tried relieving the pain just using paracetomol but that didnt touch it i then consumed half a bottle of whiskey which got me pissed but didnt take the pain away. I managed to get into the dentist the next day, the bus journey there was the most miserable thing I have ever endured. I saw the dentist who said I had an infection and she would prescibe antibiotics which i was thankful for but what i really wanted was for the excruciating pain to go away. The dentist was irish and I could barely understand her, she then said she could give me an injection to ease the pain so i agreed, she then injected me right at the end of my gum in the hard bit which hurt like hell but it took the pain away THANK GOD! she then told me to wait in the waiting room and she would call me in 5 mins to take another look. I went back in and she sat me in the chair then all I saw was a blur of activity and she was actually drilling into my tooth which I had no idea she was about to do. The dentist put a temporary filling in after cleaning out some of the infection, she then prescribed me erythromycin and metronidazole and tole me to take ibuprofen for the pain. To cut a long and painful story short it is now 3 days since i started on the antibiotics and I am still in ridiculous agony, should it be this long before they kick in, I am sure I am overdosing on ibuprofen and why is my mouth and ear and jaw still hurting like hell, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, was wondering if someone is able to give me abit of advice.

I started to have a jaw ache Monday last week which quickly turned into a throbbing pain in my jaw. Fast forward to Thursday and the pain was completely unbearable I honestly thought I was going to pass out. Quickly realised the pain was coming from my wisdom tooth on my left side.

Booked an emergency appointment at my dentist who advised that it is my wisdom tooth and that it's infected. I have been prescribed Metronidazole 400g (3 a day for 7 days) however I don't seem to see any effects of this yet. I'm only on the third day now however I am getting worried as I'm due to fly out to Florida in 3 days and as it stands I can't open my mouth.

    Any advice will be appreciated!

    All nerve treatments are dangerous!

But especially those made by metal such as Palladium and amalgam.

DO NOT NEVER TRANSFER TO A ROOT CHANGE TREATMENT (NENERCY TREATMENT) BY A METALEN crown. There is a high chance that Palladium and Amalgam (mercury) and other metal particles will end up in your body and jaw cavity, where you will never get rid of it because dentists will be mistaken. They also do not report this to you. They deceive you with x-rays, endoscopic examinations and other quack-like diagnoses. The wrong treatment is also not mentioned in your file (fraud) and thus not restored (abuse).

You are being bullied, injured and so poisoned by your dentist, surgeon and dentist!

Doctors are Fa. List and fraud will keep you in mind if you go to any doctor (including your GP).

Good day/eve to thee one and all. Another pasty crimper from Falmouth here. Bit late to the party but the tooth has been killing me for near four years so I've been here in spirit lol. 10 months of absolute agony and its finally coming out tomorrow smile. Local anaesthetic did diddly squat too. I have had to wait nearly a year for extraction under general at hospital. I too overdosed on OTC painkillers which also gave me stomach ulcers. Again the antibiotics didn't kick I'm within 5 days. From personal experience I would recommend asking for a 10 day course as opposed to 5. They should do the job after about a week if your infection is as servere as mine. I wouldn't recommend OTC painkillers. Go to the doctor and explain the situation. Hopefully he should give something like zapain, a type of ibuprofen which is much strpnger than usual stuff. U only need 2 a day. And also something to protect your stomach. I really wish I had done this sooner as it has helped managed the pain drastically. I can honestly say there's nothing worse than tooth ache. Anyway I can't b bothered to type on my tiny phone keyboard anymore. If otc painkillers whilst u wait for the antibiotics just go str8 to the doctor. U may not even have to see him just a chat over the phone and he should be able to have a prescription slip waiting for you at reception. Please don't torture yourself, my dentist was relluctent to prescribe me painkillers after my stomach ulcers but the doctor has literally saved my life and sanity, possibly even the whole towns had the pain lasted any longer (jokes) good luck to anyone reading. Chin up there is a light at the end of the tunnel wink

Ice cream on the hot throbbing pulsating nasty 😷 pain definitely works a treat, I done it last night & used an ice pack on my red hot jaw, I had some wonderful relief at a time when the pain was almost unbearable! So cold worked for me, the pain is still there this morning but it’s just about bearable, until I eat something & clash teeth! I hope this helps anyone reading ??

Hi I’ve just gone through the same ordeal. My filing came out in feb due to a severe impact RTA this was a mercury filling, I persisted with it no pain etc only when I ate. So I simply used the other side

Only last Friday I had this throbbing pain all the way from my gum to my cheek bone, over the weekend this progressively got worse to the point I tried to make a dental appointment, only to be told “sorry no appointments unless you have cheek swelling”

I stated I was in agony and I had slight swelling. But I was refused.

So I contacted nhs 111 whom kindly made me a emergency appointment the very next day.

Dentist stated my infection was that severe it had spread to my cheek bone and very close to eye socket. The pain was unbearable.

I was given a prescription for amoxicillin and metronidazole and sent on my way with an appointment for extraction - R6 molar

Sat to Wednesday I’ve never had such excruciating pain other than child birth, that’s the truth I spent so much time in pain and I ended up being off work.

I had more paracetamol and ibuprofen but it didn’t help, second option was co codamol this is only for 3 days!!

Again slow to help, third option aspirin, only allowed 1/2 per day I’m sure I took more, still agony!!!

It was only until the abx kicked in the bacteria started to die so to speak, today an awful taste in my mouth, so weather an abbess as popped??? Unsure?!!

But I’ve been sick all day and during the night, it can not be the abx as I’ve bern taking these since Saturday.

Also my kidneys are really achy.

I think I may have over done the pain killers!! And I’m feeling rotten.

My employer does not find it amusing that I’ve been off since Monday as I’ve been in so pain and I drive for a living.

So mixing medication to help with the most horrendous pain ever as now left me in agony in another way.

    Pls advise
