Toothache

Hi all,

Every month in the week before my period is due i develop tooth ache. Always the same side / tooth. Once my period has finished the toothache goes.

Also in the week before my period one of my arm pits "puffs" up!! No lumps that i can feel just a puffiness.

I also feel hotter in the week leading up to my period. Can all these symptoms be due to Peri?

I feel like I'm going a little insane

    Hi Sarah,

I would say yes that these symptoms can be caused by hormones. I have a wisdom tooth that can be painful in the lead up to a period which then settles. My wisdom tooth is impacted but generally causes no issues, I think my gums get inflamed during this time which causes pressure/pain then stops again. Have been in agony with it before and then it has miraculously just vanished. I can also get a horrible taste in my mouth. Have you visited the dentist? Dental care is free during pregnancy so stands to reason hormones can affect us in this area. I can also get jaw ache and sensitive teeth sometimes.

Our breast tissue does extend into the armpit and my left armpit in particular can become tender. Do get this checked out if it continues for reassurance if nothing else. But as you say it only happens before a period it seems unlikely to be anything serious. As our hormones fluctuate it affects our hypothalamus, which controls body temperature. This can cause hot flushes, night sweats and some women even experience chills. Problems with the thyroid can also cause issues with this. You aren't insane, but our hormones can certainly make us feel that way!

Hope this has been helpful, take care,

    Finkyb
