As I understand it, PMR pain and stiffness is usually bilateral. In other words in both shoulders and both buttocks, etc. I can tell when I have a flare because I find it hard to put my shirt on. I have had PMR for 13 years and suffer a flare roughly once a year. PMR is unpredictable and everyone with PMR is different. The golden rule, as far as I'm concerned, is that you should take enough prednisolone to remain pain free. Remember, prednisolone does not cure PMR but it keeps the inflammation under control. Good luck and I hope you can be pain free really soon. Geoff

Bicep pain is common in PMR. Does it happen after you have been doing a bit more than usual with your arm? I only have to carry a heavy shopping bag and it shouts!!! And it doesn't happen at the time as Nick says.
Which fingers tingle? And is this new or has it happened all through PMR? And I'm assuming you are right handed??

I am new to this discussion group. I was diagnosed 1 1/2 years ago, my sed rate was zero but I had many PMR symptoms for several months before I was able to find rheumatologist who would see me. I started on a Medrol pack, which worked immediately, Then I went off and the long road started to where I am now. I have reduced to 3 mgs per day, plus Plaquenil (50 mgs) and Garbapentin (300 mgs at night). The problem: I still experience pain in my biceps and sometimes in my quads. I keep wondering if I will ever be my old self? Will the pain ever leave completely? I do not have GCA and my numbers are still all normal.
Plus, I am scheduled for lumbar spine surgery next month. This is worrying because I don't want to lose ground. However, I have several kinds of pain from different sources!
Thanks for this very helpful thread.
