Topical Relief?

I've been having some relief w/a hot compress but not sure if that made me worse the next day.  Any advise on hot/cold compresses?

I'm on day 4 and just coming off of a 12 hr episode. Worst day of my life I think

Hi Shelly - I was diagnosed with TN in 2006.  When the right side of my face goes out of control with pain this is what I do.  I have a small bean bag (not sure of the proper name), put it in the microwave to get it hot and then wrap it up in a towel,  I then lie down and hold the hot bag to the area that is painful.  It definately works for me - taking the pain level down.  I have been doing this for 11 years.  The heat in the towel will last for quite some time.

another quick note - I did try prescription gels that I could rub on my gums.  Again, only temporary relief.

Hi Shelly - I was diagnosed with TN in 2005 and had MVD surgery in 2009.  Unfortunately, surgery was unsuccessful.  When my pain would reach screaming levels I would put a hot compress to my area of pain on my right side of my face.  Ths definately did relieve the pain but unfortunately, when I would remove the compress, pain would start again within a few minutes.  A temporary relief for me.
