I tore my ligaments back in 2011 playing soccer. I went up to head to ball and came down on someone's foot and rolled off and there was a loud popping. I was 13 then so when I went to ortho after feeling pain for more than a week after X-rays came back negative to breaks. My ortho said I had either a severe grade lll sprain but didn't feel it was necessary yet. I was in a boot for 3 months, got MRI and the doc said I had torn ligaments so he put me in a hard cast for a month and then back into a boot. After PT and many months I went back to soccer and had problems very often. Rolled it severely in 2015 again and went back to the same doctor. He did a CT because he was worried about bones fusing because of the lack of ligaments. I was casted again and then booted and surgery was recommended but I had just received a soccer scholarship so I decline. Rolled it bad again and had to switch orthos and he says I have all negative signs of torn ligamenta and is doing and MRI. This has now been keeping me up and waking me up in Hthe middle of the night. I can't walk som mornings and soccer is no longer possible even when I wearing a brace and taping. I never Thought I would want surgery but it never stops hurting now. Because the test like the drawer test came back negative does that mean that no ligaments are torn or those not always accurate. This stupid thing never stops hurting and I just want it fixed so I can Play like I used too. I've done PT 4 times and have tried every brace on the market. Any recommendations?

By looking to your topic subject I may say and change it to: "Tore ligaments in right ankle, two doctors say you did, one says (told you) you didn't". Of course when they say you had tore ligaments you have them, I would say the doc who have said you didn’t is actually trying to calm you down, because probably he had thought you are already in good situation.

i think you should look for another opinion, it will only get worse as time passes.
can i ask why did you spend such a long time in casts/ boots? a prolonged immobilization is really a bad thing for your ligaments stability. it also shouldn't be necessary when you are young.
i have been casted after a severe fracture to my ankle, ligaments were torn too. now bones are healed but the foot is very unstable, i use ankle brace 100% and can do exercises/run only with the boot or with brace+bandage.
i'll have ligament surgery in the next future.
