I had my ankle replacement almost 4 months, still having many different kinds of pain and much burning. Is this normal?

I too had a total ankle replacement. The rod in my shin is giving me stabbing pains. It has been a year and one month since my surgery. The want to go back in and remove the old hardware and replace it with new hardware which would include a longer rod in shin. I am very concerned and don't know what to do. Will try second opinion but I am very disturbed regarding all of this.
