Total Deafness

Hello. I want to start off with saying I know the best course of action is Seeing a Specialist, However I live by myself and Have no transportation as well as work 3rd and have a very limited budget, so I thought I would ask for help before trying to figure out a Plan. About a year ago I developed tinnitus in my right ear ( it runs in the family and I am not stranger to it ) but over the course of that year my hearing ability went down. I didn think much of it because I didn't have insurance and it wasn't lethal to me. Cut to 2 months ago I can no longer hear out of my right ear. I even got a hearing aid and i cant hear. I have next to no Idea what is wrong. I thought my ear tube was clogged, so Ive taken anything from anti-hysteminans to decongestants and it didnt help. Ive had my ear looked at by a clinic and I thought that maybe I had ear wax build up. they said there was none in my ear and that it looked infected so they gave me amoxicillin and that didnt help. Id appreicate some advice if there is any. My symptoms include. a feeling of fullnes, substantial hearing loss, the sensation of dizziness(not vertigo) when hearing a loud noise or a sudden sense of suprise and numbness in my ear. thank you for your time

After typing this discussion, I made an email to my local ent network for an urgent appointment. I felt good about taking the first steps to getting help and felt like I needed to keep going. I figured it might be something a little more than what I can handle. Thank you for your response.

However difficult it is for you Zachary guess work can never be the answer.

Yes It may be an acoustic neuroma but it could be many other things too.

However difficult financially your symptoms need to be investigated.

    Good luck.

    Morning Zachary,

First reading your post I thought there is no advice I could give.  However, later in the post you said

you had a feeling of fullness (blocked) sounds as though you may have ETD (Eustachian Tube

Dysfunction.  Mucus could be sticking your right eustachian tube together.  So you'll need something

    to help you.

Are you in the US ?  if so sadly you won't be able to get the medication I'm currently using in England.

I know for sure it's not available in the use.  However, a less stronger Nasal Spray called Flixonase

you will be able to get and try.  Sadly, when ear/ears have been blocked for a long time and even

causing deafness, the steroid sprays aren't usually enough to clear them.

Do you suffer sinus, or allergies,  if so this maybe causing the ETD.  The only other medication I

recommend to everyone on this Forum that's suffering from blocked ears is a course of Prednisolone

steriod tablets.  They will get rid of all the inflammation and your ear will drain.

When our ear become blocked that will cause dizziness too.  Tinnitus is sucsh a common condition

and a very high percentage of the population suffer it.  Can be brought on by Stress, Loud Music,

    and ear infections.

I do hope you manage to see a doctor or specialist to get this sorted out and sooner rather than

later.  doctors do tend to say, 'that will clear ' it doesn't and I have had many, many years of

experience to know what works and what doesn't......with ETD even causing me to contract

    Bacterial Meningitis.

    Kind regards

    Anne

    Hi Zach,

All the best to you Zach you have the best advice here.  It may be an Acoustic Neuroma.  I have one its scary as one has to make a decision on how to get rid of it, either by the Gamma Knife or conventional surgery.

I wish you well and hope that it is not serious.

    Pam
