Total Hysterectomy in 4 days and I’m terrified

Posted , 8 users are following.

I’m really needing some encouraging words right now, I’m booked for a total hysterectomy in 4 days and I’m sick with fear.. here’s a little about me to help understand, I’m a 23 year old and was diagnosed with 2 genetic mutations while I was pregnant with my daughter these mutations cause my blood to clot, so far I’ve had about 6 clots one large one in my pelvis and I had a piccline places during my pregnancy for hydration and daily meds that pic caused about 4 clots through my right arm and about 2 weeks before delivering my daughter I was diagnosed with a pulmonary embolism.. so because all of this I now take blood thinners everyday for the rest of my life and my periods are extremely painful and I soak through a pad in the matter of 20 mins because I cannot take birth control for clotting reasons and my doctor told me if I tried to carry another baby I would most likely die.. but now I’m terrified about the surgery I’m scared I will bleed to death and I’m scared they won’t be able to stop the bleeding and I’m scared that if something goes wrong I won’t even know about it because I’ll be asleep so many things going through my mind... has anybody been on blood thinners and has had to have a hysterectomy I really need some reassurance

Thank you for anybody who can reply

It means alot

    Hi Paige,

All of your fears are understandable. I don't have your experience of being on blood thinners but I have worked with many patients on blood thinners. Do you know what type of hysterectomy surgery you will be having? Talk to your surgeon about your concerns. I am sure he/she has reviewed your case and so has the anesthesiologist. There usually isn't much blood loss during this type of surgery, on average less than 100ml.

Stay strong and positive. The surgery is the easiest part. Recovery is exhausting, painful and slow. Please make arrangements to have help available especially if you have a young child. There will be weight restrictions for lifting. Check out the website hysterectomy sisters. That site offers a lot of support. Please know with your condition that all the key players in your surgery are going to be extra diligent with your care.

Hugs, breathe and soon this will be just a distant memory.

Hi dee, I will be having a laparoscopic hysterectomy, I think another thing that plays a part in my fear is that my surgeon said that if I start bleeding he will have to go in through my abdomin and I know thats a painful way and would cause more concern for bleeding.. and I’m hoping to have enough help for a few weeks as I have a 7 year old daughter and also a 6 month old daughter. Thank you for replying my nerves are just skyrocketing right now I spoke with the anesthesiologist 2 days ago and he said he ordered some anxiety meds for when I go in to help. I’m just sick with fear.

I too had a laparoscopic hysterectomy on April 3 2018. This is exactly what my doctor told me that there is a possibility of blood loss and having to open me up, but she did say it was a very small percentage. About what dee83677 mentioned 100ml. I know it’s terrifying but the doctors know your history and you will be in good hands. Most doctors perform these surgeries everyday, hope this help ease your mind. Wish you a fast recovery. If you want to know more about my recovery I posted it here

    Hi Paige.

I’ve read your message voicing your fear and deep concern for your upcoming surgery.

I’ve not had any experience with blood thinners. Continue checking the pañal for more responses. This is a pretty active group.

Paige, I truly understand your concerns, but I am certain that your surgical team has performed  numerous procedures involving patients who been prescribed blood thinners.

I apologize for not being able to provide any specific information. I’m sending you a BIG HUG!!!! I will be thinking of you!!! You’ll be just fine!!!! Reach out anytime you need!!!!! 🤗🤗🤗💕💕💕🌺🌺🌺🌺

    Hi Paige

I had tvh in January and it was really not half as bad as my mind was telling me.

I had little pain just cramps .

Vaginal hyster is much quicker to get over with very little blood loss.

Your surgeon will have had these situations before so please do not worry about that part. I'm sending hugs and thoughts to you.. Xx

Hi.  Sorry to know anout your situation.  I believe most of us are terrified with this procedure, esp myself and i totally understsnd how you feel.  We all need to give our trust with the doctors and pray that everything will be a success.  Try to be positive, learning to inhale exhale (square breathing ex) to calm ourselves.. i am happy

i found this site where we can find encouragement from ladies of dift ages and cases help me strong.   I will be glad to hear your update after the surgery.  Keep praying and trust.  Be strong!😊🙏
