Total knee replacement

I had a total knee replacement 9 1/2 weeks ago, I am 49 years old. I was going to physical therapy 3 days a week, now I am down to 1 day a week, and will be released in 2 weeks. I do my exercises twice a day and they take me an hour each time, then 20 minutes for icing 3 times a day, I go for a 40 minute walk in the evening. I am still experiencing terrible muscle pain even after taking tylenol and ibuprofen, muscle relaxer. I also take Natural calm that is a magnesium supplement. i am getting very discouraged. my PT tells me that i am healing nicely I have 125 degree range of motion and it's all part of the healing process, my doctor is very happy with my progress. i am a teacher and i start back to work next Monday, my doctor and PT say I am ready. I don't know how I am going to get through the day with all this pain and stiffness, I am having anxiety about it. There is no way I can fit my morning exercises in, i get early as it is just to get ready for work. I am just to have to do my exercises once in the evening and an evening walk.

I feel like i am not doing enough and not healing right, should i still have all this pain?

Does your PT know how much you are exercising? Could it be too much? I am NOT telling you what to do--just what I would do. I would take off every other day for a week and see if this eases the pain. Again, I am not telling you what to do. 😃

FYI I had 2 knee replacements and have had hand surgery. I am in relatively good health except have arthritis in many joints. Take care!

Dear Pam, please do not beat yourself up, i have had both of my knees replaced and unfortunetly these operations do take time to get over, the knees as are lot worse than the hips, i had a hip replaced first before i had to have both my knees replaced. and i can tell you now it takes a lot longer to get over knees.

the surgeon told me that it takes at least six months to a year to get over a knee replacement and he was absolutley right it took me just over a year before i felt completely healed and able to bend 90% angle.

so please be kind to yourself find time to love yourself it will be better in the end.

love and blessings to you from GENESE
