HI, I would like to know if anyone has had a plastic button fitted after a total knee replacement and did it help? I still suffer pain, like a raw rubbing feeling on my knee cap, when trying to go up or down stairs as well as standing up and sitting down. my walking is fine. my surgeon gave me anti inflammortaries at my yearly check up and said wait another six months. i went for a second opinion and this surgeon told me i need the plastic button. hope someone can help thanks.

i don't know what a plastic button is but I would get a lot of opinions from the most well respective surgeons you can find. When I needed a second back surgery I meet with 11 docs before feeling confident. good luck.

I have a plastic patella button. I had no cartilage left behind my kneecap, so it was done at the same time as my TKR. They can't remove the kneecap, so they scrape away any residual cartilage and place the plastic patella button under the patella. It was very sore afterwards and for some time standing from sitting! or stairs, aggravated it, but 6 months on it's mostly fine, although still affected slightly after kneeling or using a lot of stairs. It's a different pain to that I had before and nowhere near as stiff as it was. Some surgeons automatically replace it rather than go back in to do it later, but not all. Have they said your patella is bone on bone?

As mine was done as part of my TKR, I can't say for certain whether it will improve your current situation, but I imagine it will.
