Did you keep your own patella (kneecap) and if so It seems like it  may be the cause of your problems. I’m only guessing because I had a similar problem and I’m two years down the line.

If this is the problem they will have to undo the wound and put a button like object between the patella and the new knee x

On my second knee the pain in the calf was indescribable for about three to four weeks, practically no sleep, every time I moved was like intense cramp. I had to just preserve with gentle stretches as the calf was so short and compromised, eventually it started to improve. My sympathies, dig deep , do the exercises it will improve.

    good healing wishes.

When you change your gait to avoid the knee pain, the body compensates by using other muscle groups to take up the slack.  Remember, your quads, glutes and core are dead...so something has to give.  You don't do this consciously...the brain takes over and does what it can with the resources available.

Some people end up with sciatica because their hips/pelvis/SI joints/lower back have shifted and have become misaligned.  Some people have their calf muscles do the work of the quads.  In any case, it's nothing you've done...it just happens.

I got severe sciatica five weeks post-op.  My chiropractor realigned me in a few weeks...problem solved.  I've heard of people wearing AFOs to support their calf and ankle.  Also try some Voltaren Gel (RX in the US)...great topical anti-inflammatory a few times a day but especially at bedtime.
