Total Knee Replacement question......

I have had a TKR 4 weeks ago and everything seems to be going ok according to the physio. Consultant app on the 13 January so can't wait to see what he says about my progress. Is anyone out there using cream or bio oil on the scar? My physio used some arnica oil to massage the leg to help move the fluid up to the groin where the lymph nodes are to help the swelling. My wife is now having a go with the massage, hopefully the swelling will start to disperse in time.

we are all different on the healing front, so keep your chin up everyone.

Using lotions etc are not so good for massage, so will get some arnica or similar. Will let you know how good it is.

Hi! I've been using Bio oil and E45 cream on my scar since the clips were removed, also my physio told me to start to re train the cut nerves in the area by rubbing them with different textures eg a hairbrush, velvet etc etc Apparently if you don't do this the nerves will be ultra sensitive and your knee will always feel sore! Bit odd but I'm doing it!

Interesting about the nerve stuff, I do feel that it is very sensitive around the area, even at night I can bear the quilt on the leg sometimes.

Yes! I had my TKR on my left leg and I can't feel much at all on the outer knee and leg but I've been told that feeling will return-eventually......

hi glenda ... the nerves around our knees run from the inside of our leg, OVER the knee to the outer side of our knee.  of course i didn't now this either but my surgeon explained.  so as you can imagine, the scar has severed them which is why we cannot feel them on the outside of our knee.  i don't want to burst your bubble, but my surgeon did warn me that it will improve but that there is no guarantee that the full feeling will come back.  so fingers crossed ...

Thanks Britta and Happy New Year! When I was 23 I had an operation on my other knee and the feeling has never fully returned, but improved ad initially I remember accidentally kneeling on a drawing pin and not evening feeling it!
