total knee replacement - ready to heal scar

I am 3 months post op.  I'm ready to start dealing with the scar.  Any suggestion on what you have used to help fade the scar?  I bought mederma today, but not sure if it's the best solution.  thanks

Hi there Jenkie, not heard of mederma so can't comment on that.

I used to use BioOil, from the time the scar healed over, to flatten the scar.

I was advised by my physio after the 1st TKR to use cream to moisturise, flatten & stop the scar from 'sticking' to the tissue underneath it, so from about 4 weeks po I was massaging the scar, this time too.

For the last month I have been using Holland & Barrett's Royal Jelly Leg & Vein Cream.

Others have used Emu Oil & VitE Cream.

If you have no irritation along the scar, & I presume from the name, mederma is for the skin, no harm in trying. See how it feels.

Hi. I am using re-gen cream which is working for me, a lot of people use bio-oil but its quite expensive the cream i am using is cheap and it works, but its up to the individual what they want to pay. good luck Max

My physio had me start with vitamin E as soon as incision healing was pretty much complete at 3-4 weeks. Cheap. You can find the squishy capsules, nip off an end and drop on. Massage in. I would get two doses from one capsule. Did find a bottle of it that’s more convenient. Seems to work as well or better than expensive stuff.

I have been using vitamin oil. Small bottle will last forever.

I would recommend Bio Oil - my scar is fading to a thin white line after looking like something Frankenstein would be proud of!

Everyone had their own miracle but I alwAys did best with vit E oil. Massaged it in with my thumbs twice a day. I've now had so many surgeries on my knee I'd have to have a skin graft to cover the scar
