Total left hip replacement

Good evening I posted a couple of weeks ago about my fear of having to have a total left hip replacement but through the advice of this forum and you wonderful people I had the procedure three days ago .The operation was not without its complications lost a lot of blood and had to have two spinal blocks the surgeon and his team were fantastic in reassuring me everything was OK.I am sending this message out from my hospital room as time seems to have stood still.
Tomorrow got another assement from Physio and all being well should be going home.I am being told to just do the exercises I am told and also plenty of walking without being stupid.Just interested in asking all of you if their is any more advice you could give to aid my recovery and be useful to remember for when I have my right hip replaced let me finish off by saying anyone out their doubting about have a hip replacement don't have it done their was no one doubting the decision more than me and even after only three days there is pain yes but not the unbearable pain of before.Once again thank you all for the advice and encouragement pre-op.

Recovery will take time. If any exercises are too difficult at first, realize that your body needs to heal.

Hi Norm glad you're doing good with your recovery, for myself l had no doubts about getting the surgery, as l had been in pain for over 6 years started out with sciatica, and l had a lot of knee and groin pain, l went to an orthopedic surgeon who told me the pain in both groin and knee was coming from my Hip. 4 weeks since surgery and I'm doing great, there is a lot of pain first few weeks but I'm looking forward to being pain free in the future.
Apart from lce, elevation and physio, the one thing that really helped me was, the day after l came hone from hospital, l came up with an idea to get out and especially back in bed in my own, l used the belt from my bath robe under my foot on the operated leg, to help me hoist my leg up into the bed, this has helped me become independent as l live on my own.
Now I'm driving and walking without any cane.
Good luck on your road ahead.

This concludes my hip replacement recovery journey.
Looks promising for normal summer walking and road trips.

So glad to hear that you are pleased that you had the surgery. Main advice y would offer for a quick recovery would be to put a lot of time into doing the exercises and just as important use two arm crutches when walking until you are walking strongly and with a good gait. The time will come when you suddenly realise that you do not need any support.
Best of luck. Richard

Zero Gravity treadmill helped me slowly get back mobility and strength at my pace own without risking injury to other joints knees, ankles and especially my back muscles, discs and sciatic nerve issues.
Good Luck.

Hi Norm
My advise as I'm 10 weeks post op right thr is the first 4 weeks are very hard if you have any additional knee injury from the op as I did. I suggest ice daily and elevate a hour a day to reduce swelling once the swelling starts to ease you can start to do a little more. I didn't go out for weeks as my hip was extremely stiff and my knee was sore but little and often is the key. Stick to the precautions religiously as you will only hurt yourself if you push to much. 10 weeks on for me and I can't lift my leg and knee fully yet, my glutes are damaged so bum crutches are a must unless you want a big limp as I currently have. So start the bum exercises early but only a few at a time.
If you come across any good advise for the rest of us feel free to share, good luck and speedy recovery.
