Total Right Hip Replacment July 3rd 2014

Hi so far so good - reading some of the threads Im normal?

However I have a concern that after I have been sitting and then get up and walk I get a clunk from the hip joint area and some times a feeling I cant put words to that my leg wont take my weight but if I relax then tighten the muscles it stops clunking and the feeling goes away.

Any body had the same feelings? Ive had my 6 week check but that was only a discussion and a wound check.

Agree with the others. V early days and there's many a clunk to be had! Sometimes, 10 weeks on, I feel a slight shift in the hip on the outer side but it's all the tissues settling and things going back into place. As long as you follow the 90 degree rule you won't have any problems.

Hello - I'm in the U.S and had my total right hip replacement on Aug 1, so going on 4 weeks. I also have a clunk, or hitch, or catch it seems. I'm walking without a cane now, but it seems every few strides i will notice that clunk or hitch, which can be a little disconcerting. The physicians assistant in my surgeon's office told me that it was the IT band (ilio tibal band) moving against the bone, and sometimes that happens with the realignment of everything during the operation. I'm hoping this will eventually go away with time. I will be one very disappointed patient if it does not after going through all this and expecting a satisfactory outcome, as we all hope for. Hope yours will be resolved as well.

Thats where this forum is SO useful ..to  share concerns that one was not properly briefed about on leaving hospital.

I was more than concerned when my hip started "clunking" when taking steps one week after surgery (and still does two weeks on) I was convinced something had gone terrribly wrong.

Now I know its common thanks to this forum and, to quote the Immortal Bard, "For that relief, much thanks"!

Hi prussell, I am at the tenth month after THR and I suffer the same. I am never without pain and it is the worst when I transition from sitting to standing. Putting weight on it can sometimes make me scream. My doc ordered an injection into a tendon in my groin, but in the end I am worse off. Regret it. I exercise in a heated pool at my senior center and afterwards my hip feels more relaxed. Wish you the best and hope your pain does not last too long!
