Total Vaginal Hysterectomy + Rectocele Surgery + Perineorrhaphy Recovery Timeline?

Hi I'm 4 weeks post op from: Total Vaginal Hysterectomy + Rectocele Surgery + Perineorrhaphy Recovery.

Wondering if anyone else had these procedures and has any advice as far as recovery tips, and healing timeline they experienced. How long it took to be able to sit down normally etc. I'm grateful for any help or to hear anyone's experiences. Thank you for your time.

Thats one heck of a lot of surgery, so just bear in mind there has been a lot of cutting and suturing and blood loss. Lots of tender tissues to heal and your body needs to recover. You need to give yourself at least 3 months until you feel anything like normal. Keep off your feet as much as possible. That means put your feet up and treat yourself like a lady of leisure. No heavy lifting, especially children. Make sure your husband/partner knows exactly what you have been through and that you wont be back to full steam for 3 months so you need as much help as possible. If you have any friends/family who can help with everyday tasks then do ask them.

Your consultant will probably tell you you are fine after 6 weeks....dont believe him/her.Women who have had this sort of surgery always say 3 months recovery for a good result. No driving for 3 months. If you drive too soon and have an accident it can make your insurance invalid. No penetrative sex for 3 months. When you are ready, take it very slowly and make sure your partner knows that "Stop" means "STOP". It may be quite painful at first but it does get better as you relax and those wounds heal.

Sitting normally? That can vary from 2 to 6 weeks+, You can try a donut cushion or 2 cushions....one for each buttock, But if you have to lay on your side thats OK.

We all think we are Wonder Woman but we really are not when it comes to this sort of surgery. Be very kind to yourself....Yes, you ARE worth it. xxx
