Hi Jennifer, I did a little research and found that elevated tpo is an early indicator of hypothyroid disease. Though elevated tpo can indicate diabetes, lupus, RA and other autoimmune disease, and even low testosterone levels.

There is quite a bit of research showing elevated tpo is a better screening test for early indications of hypothyroid disease than TSH.

I found an article that offers excellent dietary tips on lowering antibody levels towards achieving remission. mainly you can do an elimination diet, an autoimmune protocol diet or a modified paleo diet. zinc and selenium are suggested supplements. DHEA supplements are suggested as helpful. I have used DHEA supplements myself and found a 4 day alternating pulse dose to be the best. There are concerns with extended use of DHEA.

I will send you a private message with the link.

I do have an acquaintance who has high tpo and has been working with diet and supplements specifically to lower her tpo levels. I don't know all of her protocol, but she and I have both found prenatal vitamins to be helpful. We've both also found dietary changes to be extremely helpful.

I only had my antibodies checked once and was told they were negative. I suspect they were considered too low to be called positive and my disease was so advanced that it's likely the antibody levels were in remission and had been very high in previous years. In treating my own advanced hypothyroid disease, the supplement that I feel saved my life is essential amino acid complex supplements. I'm not sure why this isn't the go to treatment, as from a biochemistry perspective, the amino acids make sense.

The helpful thing about high antibody levels is that you can retest regularly to see whether the changes you're making with diet and supplements are working. My friend has used the tpo test to monitor her progress over the last year or so and has found it to be very helpful. Last I spoke to her, she gad lowered her tpo substantially and was quite pleased.

I'll copy this note and send it to you in a pm with the link on diet.

Hi thanks for the information. I was referred to a rheumatologist due to having a positive ANA result also. Nothing has came of that yet. I am seeing a private endocrinologist soon.
