Tramadol 50mg

Hi all

I was prescribed 50 mg of Tramadol to be taken 1 tablet 4 times daily

Until now I have just been taking as required, I have noticed that with the tramadol I am more settled , less depression and mood swings and no pain.

I am worried about taking this medication as I know it can be brutal.

I was thinking of taking 1 pill once a day is this safe as I think I have a possible 20 - 30 week to see the consultant

thanks for any advice

    Hi Billy,

Well this is from someone who wished ANY painkiller would help her ! Tramadol did not work for me, as have another five strong painkillers including man made morphine....I would dearly love some sort of respite as I have no idea when operation will take place, hip - then both knees. I am beside myself at the moment !!

Regarding coming off Tramadol. I have known perhaps 8 to 10 people who "did not " like taking the drug, but the pain was so bad they took it, and with them, like yourself it made a huge difference!

They all subsequently carefully came off the tablets with the Doctor or Consultants advice, with no problems, and when we all discussed this very problem at a later date, they all said they would do the same thing again. Pain is horrendous to have to live with daily.

At the moment I have not got a life!! I personally would stick with it, just remember though that if you drop the dosage, there is a good chance you will not have the same pain relief you are having at the moment.Pain relief differs hugely from person to person !

My own feelings rightly or wrongly !!

    Billy,

Why don't you start slowly and build up if you need to. Not everyone is suited to taking the full prescribed dose straight off, it may help to lessen any side effects.

I found the key to waiting for both my ops was pain management.

i tried several types of pain relief and finally settled with Zomorph .

Took slow release meds in the morning and again at bedtime.

However you take pain relief you should try and manage it rather than medicate when its too late.

before making any changes i would speak with your doctor - if you would feel more comfortable with less tramadol perhaps they can work out a regime with other pain relief in tandem (like panadol with an anti-inflammatory) and tramadol when needed? My pain team worked out a plan that worked for me, only using tramadol when the pain is worse rather than blanket pain relief when maybe i don't need it. I'm currently waiting for my second hip replacement in a couple of months and dealing with a fracture from my first one and staying on top of the pain is the most important thing! Best of luck to you 😃

Speak to your doctor. You should never reduce the dosage, especially going from 4 pills to 1 pill. There will be severe repercussions by dropping that drastically. You will cause yourself undue difficulty, anxiety, harm, physical withdrawal, etc. I know this from seeing friends doing similarly, albeit, Tramadol, anti-depressents, etc. I wish you the best and recommend that you do not doctor yourself.

    Only wishing you the best!

    Warm regards,

    Georgette

    Hello Billy,

I finally, after 2 years of putting off the inevitable, I underwent my hip surgery Monday 25th March.

I was in hospital for 5 days, and I too, was given Tramadol to take home, 3 times daily.

Last year due to the hell going on in my life, I traveled to Vietnam twice, with a box of Skudexa- which contains Tramadol.

I may have take 3 tablets, last year when the pain was so unbearable, but only a half of one at night, and as a result I spent the next day vomiting the moment I woke up.

I took the Tramadol home from the hospital but said to my surgeon, way too strong full of Morphine and only if I am totally desperate, would I take it. Like you however, it was prescribed 1tab 3 times a day.......my Goodness, I would be “flying” and vomiting non stop.

I asked for Cataflan and paracetamol, which is far kinder, and not so dangerous.

I can only speak from experience, but I would err on the side of caution.

    Hope this helps.:)
