Tramadol

I know a few of you have used Tramadol - would you say it helped a lot?  I am taking Cocodamol at the moment (only 3 tablets a day) but my doctor wants me to change to Tramadol as the Cocod isn't working too well.

Afraid of changing, trying new tablets, with often as many side-effects as the one you ARE taking.

    Hi Constance,

I took Tramadol and had weird hallucinations, spiders and horrid creepy crrawlies climbing up the walls and I felt so spaced out - never again.

I take dispersible co-codamol, they don't tke the pain away, but they just take the edge off it.

What strength are you taking and iss there a reason you are only taking 3 tablets a day?

Don't like the sound of those side effects.  I'll fight not to change my tablets.

500 Paracetemol 30 Codeine.  Refuse to take more than 3 per day as I have had severe stomach/bowel difficulties - ended up in hospital recently for 2 weeks (blood loss, etc.)

The problem is I have PMR, Polyarthritis,  Severe Tendonitis.  Don't know what to take to give me relief from pain.  Tried all sorts of "natural" remedies - haven't found any that help.

They want me in hospital again next month, again for 2 weeks, to try and sort me out.  That makes it 3 two week stays in hospital in 9 months.

Oh crikey Constance, no wonder you refuse to take anymore than 3 per day. Pain is really wearing on the body and mind and it sounds as if you have more than your fair share bless you x

Hi Constance.  I had to stop cocodamol as it caused really awful stomach issues - constipation, IBS, etc.  Unfortunately I cant take Tramadol - have an adverse reaction to any opiods, they make me sick and like Sukes Tramadol also gave me hallucinations and balance issues.  They are very effective for some people but do take care as they are highly addictive so resist the urge to keep increasing the dose.

Hi Loxie, constipation is a big downside to co-codomal unfortunately.  I always make sure that I have a bowl of museli with nuts and fruits, especially prunes, each day and that usually does the trick for me.  wink

Hiya Sukes.  I tried all that.  I am vegetarian and already eat a very healthy diet with lots of fruit and wholewheat etc.,  nothing much worked unfortunately and I didnt want to resort to pharmaceuticals to ease the bowel problems.  It got really bad at one point and my doctor was concerned about colon health so took me off codeine based meds.  I've found good pain relief from more natural sources, like fresh ginger and even meditation.  Just happy to be off the chemicals for a while.

I totally am with you on that Loxie, I take as little meds as possible, I just get such bad reactions, it's just not worth it. x

I agree Sukes - I was finding that all pain meds were causing rotten side effects, some worse than the pain they were supposed to help with.  I've ditched the lot for the time being, just take an occasional paracetamol but not often.  I feel in much better health although trying to find something to help with the pain is an uphill struggle.

Hi Constance, I currently take tramodol and have some issues, like profuse sweating and jitters. It somewhat helps with the pain so the Dr wont give me anything else. I hope they are able to help you if prescribed, or they find something that does.

Hi Constance. I've been taking tramadol for quite a long time now. Side effects for are feeling sleepy and some sweating especialy when trying to do household tasks or gardening. For me this is worth it as nothing else I've been prescribed has worked. Codeine caused no end of bowel/stomach probs so couldn't take enough to have desired effect, ie pain relief. I was told all pain tabs have side effects, we have to weigh the pros and cons and decide which is worse, pain or side effects!  rolleyes
